It explains how a nurse will speak with the child and parents, administer nose spray, and introduce the Voice Team. The program describes practicing silly speech sentences, interacting with a computer using a mask and microphone, watching the child on TV, and viewing vocal cords with flexible scopes through the nose with numbness from the spray. Emphasis is placed on staying still during the procedure for safety and comfort.","Welcome to Our Clinic \nPediatric Voice Clinic \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. We’re glad that \nyou came to see us. \nCan you find your way? \nPediatric Voice Clinic \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. All Rights Reserved. \nWhen you come to see us, the nurse will talk to you and tell you everything that will happen during your visit. \nThen she will give you some nose spray. Have you ever used nose spray for a stuffy nose? It only takes two squirts on each side, and then your nose will feel tingly and numb. \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. All Rights Reserved. \nNext you will meet the Voice Team members. \nThey will talk with your mom and dad, and then they will talk to you. When you are done with your questions, you will go with them to the computer and say some silly sentences. \nHere are some sentences you can practice: \n• The blue spot is on the key again. \n• How hard did he hit him? \n• We eat eggs every evening. \n• We were away a year ago. \n• My mama makes lemon muffins. \n• Peter will keep at the peak. \n© 2008. You get to wear a mask over your face, like an airplane pilot. \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. All Rights Reserved. \nYou will also talk into a microphone and see funny blue lines on the computer screen. \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. All Rights Reserved. \nWhen you finish talking to the computer, you will go to another room to watch yourself on a TV screen. \nThis is when you get to be the star of our TV show! You will see your face on the TV, so get ready to smile. \nDraw yourself on TV! \n© 2008. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. All Rights Reserved. \nNext, it will be time to see your vocal cords on the TV. You use your vocal cords to make your voice as you talk and sing. \nThere are two different scopes we might use. We will look at your vocal cords with one or both of the scopes. \nOne is a long skinny tube that the speech-language pathologist or doctor will put inside your nose. It might feel strange, because your nose will be numb from the nose spray. This is what the nose scope looks like. \nThis scope can bend and it has a little light on the end. The scope goes through your nose to the back of your throat, and will look at your vocal cords. \n© 2008.
