Does it reflect or construct my identity? \nProvides plenty of opportunity for creativity \nEnglish language study should not only introduce students to how language is used, but it should also develop their ability to use and craft language themselves; to cultivate their own distinct creative voice. We have retained the creative writing coursework tasks to give students plenty of creative opportunities. \nDevelops research and investigative skills \nDeveloping research, investigation and analytical skills is excellent preparation for further study or entering the workplace. Our Investigating Language component introduces students to these skills in a manageable way, appropriate to the demands of A level study. \nCelebrating the diversity of the English Language \nOur approach offers students opportunities to engage with the great variety of English in use, and to consider some critical language debates. \nHow does language vary according to the place it is used, not only geographically, but also socially and culturally? \nHow has language changed over time? \nDoes my own language use vary? When does this happen and why? \nA choice of five engaging topic areas. \nPre-released subtopics every January, to focus on a specific area of research. \nGuidance on primary and secondary data sources , as well as appropriate wider reading. \nNurtures individual specialism \nTogether, the creative writing and language investigation components \ngive students maximum opportunity to develop their particular language specialism in their second year of study. \nStudents interested in journalism might select to write newspaper articles for their coursework, followed by language and journalism for their investigation component. \nStudents interested in law might choose to produce speeches for their \ncoursework, followed by language and power for their investigation component. \nStudents interested in story writing might choose to produce short stories showcasing a specific accent or dialect for their coursework, followed by regional language variation for their investigation component. \nCo-teachable AS and A level \nThe AS specification has been designed to be entirely co-teachable with the first year of a two-year A level course . \nAll the AS topics appear in the A level specification, so there is no requirement to make decisions around AS and A level routes prior to the start of the course . \nHolistic assessment \nHolistic mark schemes allow examiners to mark the students’ work in the same way as it was written-as a single cohesive piece of writing, with the response to each Assessment Objective integrated throughout. \nbest response to many marks are \nWe want students to be able to focus on giving their their exam question, not on trying to remember how attributed to each Assessment Objective. \nPearson \nfeatures of \nEdexcel AS and \nA \nThe key \nlevel \nEnglish \nLanguage \nWe have consulted with those that know most about the subject: teachers, subject associations and our partners in Higher Education, in order to produce specifications that will prepare students for the research and study skills required of them in higher education and the workplace. We have worked \nwith experts such as Professor Urszula Clark at Aston University to produce a Language Transition Unit , which will introduce students to key language terminology and concepts, \nbetween GCSE and AS and A level. \nbridging \nthe gap \nSpecification Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in English Language (9EN0) First teaching from September 2015 \nFirst certification from 2017 Issue 1 \nSpecification Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced Subsidiary GCE in English Language (8EN0) First teaching from September 2015 \nFirst certification from 2016 Issue 1 \nA level assessment at a glance \nA level (first assessment: summer 2017) \nComponent 1: Language Variation \nComponent 2: Child Language \nComponent 3: \nInvestigating Languag","cbCaig6AO9cS5EiI","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaig6AO9cS5EiI","pdf",968197,"English","# A level assessment at a glance\n## Components and weightings\n## Language variation, child language, and investigating language\n## Coursework: Crafting Language\n# Students’ study areas and research options\n## Five topic areas and pre-released subtopics\n## Investigation process and section questions\n# Assessment structure and holistic mark schemes\n## Holistic marking approach\n## Focused responses and Assessment Objectives","[{\"question\":\"What skills does the course develop besides language study?\",\"answer\":\"It develops creative writing capability and research, investigation, and analytical skills through the Investigating Language component.\"},{\"question\":\"How are the A level components structured for (9EN0) Issue 1?\",\"answer\":\"The overview includes components for Language Variation, Child Language, and Investigating Language, plus coursework: Crafting Language, each with specified time and mark weightings.\"},{\"question\":\"How do students choose their investigation topics and subtopics?\",\"answer\":\"Students select a research focus from five topic areas, and a subtopic for each topic area is pre-released in the January before the summer examination.\"}]","Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE in English Language (9EN0) - Issue 1 | PDF",1792462621,18]
