So a Roman army officer with some soldiers accompanied Paul and some other prisoners as their guard.  \nThe officer took Paul and the other prisoners on a sailing ship, and they began the journey towards Rome. At the first port, the officer allowed Paul to go ashore so friends could provide for his needs.  \nAfter stopping in Sidon, they sailed along the coast. Then they landed at Myra in Lycia, where they boarded a ship sailing to Italy.  \nThe ship made slow progress for many days. Finally, they reached a coastal town called Fair Havens on an island named Crete. By then the sailing was dangerous because it was now the season for dangerous storms.  \nPaul warned them, saying,“Men, if we sail on, I believe our voyage will be disastrous. We will be shipwrecked, lose the cargo, and possibly our own lives.” But the Roman army officer did not listen to Paul’s warning.  \nInstead, the officer followed advice from the ship’s captain and the ship's owner.
