Dec. 2019","PAD Journal House Style Guide defines required editorial and manuscript formatting standards for contributions, including preferred Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.) conventions and dictionary-based word usage. It specifies house fonts, first-page manuscript components, page-break handling, and detailed style rules for American English, dates, artwork years, and institutional location formatting. It also prescribes capitalization rules for headings by level, numeral spelling thresholds, abbreviation and degree usage, translation and capitalization of foreign titles, Chicago-style endnote citations, and strict illustration caption and epigraph formatting requirements.","PAD Journal House Style Guide \nRev. Dec. 2019 \nPreferred Manuals \nFor general style issues (documentation, punctuation, capitalization, \nabbreviations, etc.), conform to Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed. (CMoS) . \nAll words must appear in Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary, see [https://www.merriam-webster.com/](https://www.merriam-webster.com/) . \nFor place names, follow Merriam-Webster's Geographical Dictionary, 3rd ed. \nFor names and dates of artists, please use the Union List of Artists’Names (ULAN) . \nDocument Formatting \nGeorgia is the house style font. \nThe first page of the manuscript should contain (1) the article title; (2) author’s name; (3) author’s email address; (4) author’s bio; (5) article abstract; and (6) 5– 6 keywords. If this information runs longer than one page, introduce a page break (in Word: Insert > Break > Page Break) so that the beginning of the article appears at the top of the subsequent page. \nConventions \nAmerican English is preferred. \nAmerican-style dates (e.g., January 5, 2015) . \nYears for artworks go in parentheses after the title of the work, not in running text. \nCollecting institution name and city name (no state or country) after name of work or exhibition. \n“America/n” should only be used in contexts that describe people or things from all of the Americas, not only the United States. \nCapitalization of art movements and styles follows CMoS 8.79. \nHeadings/Section Titles \nLevel 1/A (Article Title): Title case: CAPITALS FOR ALL SIGNIFICANT WORDS (Centered, Boldface Type, All Words Capitalized) \nLevel 2/B: Title case: Capitals for All Significant Words (Flush Left, Boldface Type, Headline-Style Capitalization) \nLevel 3/C: Title case: Capitals for All Significant Words (Flush Left, Italic Type, Headline-Style Capitalization) \nLevel 4/D: Sentence case: Capital on initial letter only (Flush left, roman type, sentence-style capitalization) \nNumbers/Numerals \nSpell out numbers zero through one hundred. For 101 and higher, the numeral should be used. \nCenturies should be spelled out, such as “nineteenth century” rather than “19th century.” \nAbbreviations \nPlace names: US (noun and adjective form); spell out US state names instead of using abbreviation in text and biographical notes only (thus Virginia instead of VA); US state names should be abbreviated in citations. \nDegrees (most common in Biographical Notes): BA, MA, MFA, PhD \nTranslations \nIn the text, give only the translations of foreign-language quotations and in the notes provide the original text and documentation for translations used. If most translations are by the author, put an explanatory note at the beginning of the \nendnotes to the effect that all translations are by the author unless otherwise indicated. \nFor the capitalization of foreign titles of books, articles, etc., use “sentence style”: capitalize the first word of the title and of the subtitle, except for German titles in which the first word and all nouns are capitalized. For the capitalization of names of conferences, institutions, museums, etc., capitalize sentence style. \nIf a foreign language title appears in the text, it must be succeeded by a translation in parentheses. Capitalize headline style only if the work has been published in English under the translated title, otherwise use sentence style capitalization. \nTranslations must appear in the body text and image captions; book, journal, and article titles in the citations do not need to be translated. \nCitations \nUse endnotes instead of footnotes. All authors must format citations according to Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed., with endnotes (Arabic numerals) instead of parenthetical references within the text. \nUse shortened citations for repeated sources and in the place ofibid. All commas and periods go inside quotation marks. \nAll months should have three letter abbreviations: January = Jan.; February=Feb. ; March=Mar.; April = Apr.; May=May; June=Jun. ; July=Jul.","cbCaiiGhuPZK0I78","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiiGhuPZK0I78","pdf",134944,"English","en",105,"# Preferred Manuals\n# Document Formatting\n# Conventions\n# Headings/Section Titles\n# Numbers/Numerals\n# Abbreviations\n# Translations\n# Citations\n# Illustrations and Captions\n# Epigraphs","[{\"question\":\"Which style manual and dictionaries does the guide require?\",\"answer\":\"General style issues must follow the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed.
