As always, he took his time to drive up the road which followed the curve of the boundary, and when taking this journey, he would search in his memory for long hot summer afternoons in years gone by when Reg was quite literally in his pomp. Birtles, a ferociously fast opening bowler who terrorised batters with his namesake deliveries known as Reg’s Rocket and the Birtles’ Bouncer. Striking fear into batters with aggressive and hostile bowling. Reg had been, without doubt, an outstanding amateur bowler in his time.  \nHowever, Reg’s search into the memory bank today stopped short as he looked across the ground that he graced for many seasons .
