This study evaluates independent determinants of mortality in patients diagnosed with GISTs across the past decade using SEER data. The analysis includes baseline characteristics and compares overall mortality and cancer-specific mortality via Cox regression to identify independent predictors of death. Results highlight significant associations with demographics, disease stage, and treatment-related outcomes.","medical sciences  \nArticle  \nOutcomes of Patients with Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumors in the Past Decade  \nAyrton Bangolo 1, *, Pierre Fwelo 2, Tha'er Al-Qatish 1, John Bukasa-Kakamba 3, Tiffany Lee 1, Akira G. Owing to their rarity, very little is known about their overall epidemiology, and the prognostic factors of their pathology. The current study aimed to evaluate the independent determinants of mortality in patients diagnosed with GISTs over the past decade. Methods: Our study comprised 2374 patients diagnosed with GISTs from 2000 to 2017 from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database. We analyzed the baseline characteristics, and overall mortality (OM), as well as the cancer-specific mortality (CSM) of GISTs. Variables with a p value \u003C 0.01 in the univariate Cox regression were incorporated into the multivariate Cox model, to determine the independent prognostic factors. Results: Multivariate Cox proportional hazard regression analyses of factors affecting the all-cause mortality and GIST-related mortality among US patients between 2010 and 2017 revealed a higher overall mortality in non-Hispanic Black patients (HR = 1.516, 95% CI 1.172–1.961, p = 0.002), patients aged 80+ (HR = 9.783, 95% CI 4.185–22.868, p = 0), followed by those aged 60–79 (HR = 3.408, 95% CI 1.488–7.807, p = 0.004); male patients (HR = 1.795, 95% CI 1.461–2.206, p \u003C 0.00","cbCaimukb9r1iVaX","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimukb9r1iVaX","pdf",261486,12,1,"English","en",105,"# Introduction\n# Materials and Methods\n## Data Source and Study Cohort\n## Statistical Analysis\n# Results\n## Overall Mortality\n## Cancer-Specific Mortality\n# Discussion\n# Conclusions","[{\"question\":\"What was the main objective of the study on gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs)?\",\"answer\":\"To evaluate the independent determinants of mortality in patients diagnosed with GISTs over the past decade.\"},{\"question\":\"How many patients and what years were included in the SEER-based analysis?\",\"answer\":\"The study analyzed 2,374 patients diagnosed with GISTs from 2000 to 2017 in the SEER database.\"},{\"question\":\"Which patient and disease factors were associated with higher mortality in the study?\",\"answer\":\"Higher mortality was associated with non-Hispanic Black race, male sex, older age (especially 80+), and advanced disease with distant metastasis or regional involvement, and widowed status;
