It works well in patients who have not used systemic therapies before or have widespread disease. Unlike injectable treatments, icotrokinra is taken orally, making it more convenient and potentially improving adherence. The pathophysiology involves dysregulated immune signaling, particularly the interleukin-23/T-helper 17 (IL-23/Th17) cells pathway, which drives inflammation and epidermal remodeling. Patients typically present with itching, pain, and psychosocial distress, and disease severity is assessed using tools such asthe Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI)[1] . Conventional treatments include topical agents, phototherapy, systemic immunosuppressants, and therapies targeting the IL-23/Th17 pathway. However, limitations such as injection-related discomfort and adherence issues persist, especially in younger populations. This has led to interest in oral treatments such asicotrokinra, which offer targeted immunomodulation with greater convenience.  \nAccording to Johnson & Johnson’s 2025 announcement, the company has submitted a New Drug Application to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) forIcotrokinra, which is a selective IL-23 receptor antagonist designed for oral administration, offering a novel approach to managing chronic inflammatory skin disease.
