However, process documentation is also an important part of continuous improvement because it helps people understand how a process works and where it can be improved. On the other hand, not every process mapping tool delivers the same type of information ; sometimes a map can be technically correct, but still not useful if it does not match the purpose of the analysis. \nSoffer and Wand (2007) said: “Different modeling techniques tend to emphasize diverse aspects of processes, such as activity sequencing, resource allocation, communications, or organizational responsibilities”(p. 663), thus, making it necessary to determine the correct selection of tools to map and the details of each technique. \nMETHODOLOGY \nThis poster uses a simple comparative case study approach. The idea is to take the process example: “Online Retail Customer Order Fulfillment”, from when the customers place a sales order until they receives their package using two different tools: a SIPOC Diagram and a Cross-Functional Flowchart to compare how each diagram is useful according to the objective that needs to be achieved. \n➢ SIPOC Perspective \nSIPOC “is an acronym for Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outcomes and Customers”(Ruggeri et al., 2007) that helps to have a broad view of all the interactions within entities, what kinds of information they are providing as input to the process and the results coming out from the process . \nFigure 1: SIPOC diagram for an Online Retail Customer Order Fulfillment \n➢ Cross Functional Perspective \nRuggeri (2007) points out that Cross-Functional diagrams “are most useful in environments where the process involves many stakeholders”(p. 1485) . If the scope has more details about that entities who are participating and how they are correlated, then this perspective will accomplish that . \nFigure 2: Cross-Functional diagram for an Online Retail Customer Order Fulfillment \nCONCLUSION \nThis comparison shows that both tools are useful, but they serve different purposes . SIPOC is better when the goal is to define the general scope of the process . The CrossFunctional Diagram is better to detail how the process works across roles, departmentsand/or systems . For that reason, process documentation should begin by establishing a clear objective. \nREFERENCES \nCONTACT INFORMATION","cbCaicHCoF5rb4uN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaicHCoF5rb4uN","pdf",296349,"English","# Introduction\n# Methodology\n## SIPOC Perspective\n## Cross Functional Perspective\n# Conclusion\n# References\n# Contact Information","[{\"question\":\"What is the main goal of comparing SIPOC and a cross-functional flowchart?\",\"answer\":\"To determine which tool best fits the objective of the process analysis, since different mapping techniques emphasize different process aspects.\"},{\"question\":\"How does SIPOC help in understanding a process?\",\"answer\":\"SIPOC provides a broad view of interactions by outlining Suppliers, Inputs, Process, Outcomes, and Customers, helping identify information flow into and results from the process.\"},{\"question\":\"When is a cross-functional diagram most useful according to the document?\",\"answer\":\"It is most useful when the process involves many stakeholders and when more detail is needed about participating entities and how they relate.\"}]","One Process, Two Perspectives: Choosing the Right Process Map | PDF"]
