The stone, my hands, and especially my heart as I felt it bleed out into the blinking fragments of the dark red stone. My heart split into the pieces, making me wince as my soul occupied the jagged edges and sharp corners of the splintered magic. Was this what it felt like to hold a life in your hands?  \nEven if it was your own?  \nThere was so much noise around me. Servants were crying terribly loudly, and the guards were barking at each other and at me . I could hear their voices, but it was hard to be afraid of their stern tones. My fear wasn’t fully developed yet; it was resting beside my thumb. The scattered pieces of soul stone swirled with energy as I felt my emotions fuse to the broken shards. I prayed that they would be strong enough to hold me together, or atthe very least, what was left of me .  \nThe others weren’t strong enough.  \nMy sorrow was the first to awaken, filling my eyes with tears as I thought back to the last memory I could recall of this fatal evening. Troyle was lying face down in front of me, with Mother and Father collapsed behind him. No one was breathing, and a cold sword was clutched in my palms.  \nThat cold wouldn’t go away, even as my fear tumbled into my mind and burned in the broken shard by my thumb. That’s when I cried for help.” I couldn’t cry, but the sweat dripping down my cheek felt enough like a tear to satisfy the ache in my chest.“I don’t remember anything else.
