Captain Richarde Bluminal endures routine duty until a scan produces a gravitational anomaly inconsistent with planets or expected ship singularities. As the crew gathers wider spectrum evidence and the visuals sharpen, the captain pushes for precise definitions, setting up an investigation into an unknown force or artifact within the system’s surveillance zone.","PREFACE \nAlso in the Odysey Universe : \nBefore the Odyssey \nOdyssey One Era \nAfter the Odyssey \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nPrologue \nFlaring Glory, Grand Cruiser of the Republic \nOort Cloud, .3 lightyears from Sol Heliopause \n“Scan complete, shifting scanning to sector nine nine three eight one by four three nine two by zero zero nine eight three. Scan commencing.” \nCaptain Richarde Bluminal tried not to look as bored as he felt as his crew went about their duties. The detailed scanning of the Sol system was an ongoing tasking from the Republic, and one he understood…but it was also one of the dullest assignments in the fleet. \nFor all that, though, it wasn’t a punishment duty or the sort that the less-than-fully competent would be assigned. It was, in fact, a volunteeronly assignment, and none but those with absolutely perfect records were even considered. \nIt was his crew’s third tour in the task, in fact. Not a record, but avery respectable number of times to be accepted for the duty. Over the past three centuries, ships of the republic had been performing deep in-depthscans of every sector, mapping the movements and changes in the Dyson Class Swarm known only to historians now as Gracen’s Middle Finger. Most just knew it as the Sol Swarm, a highly lethal defensive structure that had been running on full automatic since the fall of Earth almost five centuries earlier. \nThe automated and self-replicating machine swarm had been the death of countless fools who’d tried to sneak in over the centuries, seeking to reclaim ‘holy terra’ or, more likely, loot it. \nNot many knew the story, though it wasn’t exactly hidden or lost. Most just didn’t care anymore, not about history that far removed from their daily lives. Earth was a myth to the citizens of the republic, one that only a fraction of the population had real connections to anyway, so most just considered it a bedtime story…sometimes a cautionary tale. \nBe good little children, or the Earthers will burn you down. \nRicharde smiled slightly at that thought. He had a straight lineage back to one of the groups that had fled Earth in those last days, and his \ngrandparents never let him forget it, but his mother had been from an old Imperial Line and he’d grown up both fearing…and revering…the humans who’d come from the iceball on his screens. \n“Scan complete, shifting scanning to sector nine nine three eight one by four three nine two by zero zero nine eight four. Scan commencing.” \nThree hundred years, and we still haven’t mapped it all. \nThe sheer amount of space held in a bubble of spacetime only point zero zero one lightyears across was mind-boggling. In-depth scans were fast but not that fast. There were centuries more of scans left to be done before it could be said to be complete, and even then, they’d likely have to start all over for any parts of the system that weren’t considered important enough to maintain constant surveillance of. \nThankfully, the Dyson Swarm had stabilized only a few decades after deployment and had never shown any sign of expansion since. \nEarthers were a hell ofa lot more responsible even in their death than the Empire had been in life, he thought, not for the first time. \nSelf-replicating swarms were banned within the Republic, and for good reason, along with every other contracted civilization. There were entirely empty star systems dotted all along the Orion Arm, dead systems now, not even graveyards…just empty monuments to the hubris of the Empire and the sheer power they’d unleashed because of it. \nThose weapons had an even older history, but had not been seen in about five centuries either. Richarde hoped dearly that the Drasin had long since been wiped out as well, and it seemed likely that they had been. Their last assault had resulted in the fall of the Empire and the rise of the Republic that had taken its place, so he and many others perhaps owed the Drasin for that…but given the chance, it was a debt he","cbCairAvdZ8E0ktN","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCairAvdZ8E0ktN","pdf",1409204,317,"English","en",105,"# Preface\n## Before the Odyssey\n## Odyssey One Era\n## After the Odyssey\n# Prologue\n##
