As she becomes a mother to a son, twin daughters, and a bustling household, she creates joyful summer routines despite limited resources in the late 1970s. The story highlights home-cooked treats, local fruits, and creative traditions such as kolams, golu dolls for Dusshera, and sharing sundal with neighbors.","Of Karuvadams and summer vacations \nAuthor: Vani Balaraman \nIllustrators: Ad Sarin, Ajanta Guhathakurta, Angie & Upesh, Priya Kuriyan, Rijuta Ghate, \nRupa Prakash, Santosh Pujari, Soumya Menon, Suvidha Mistry, Tanaya Vyas.. \nEnglish Story Book \nOf Karuvadams and summer vacations \nAuthor: Vani Balaraman \nIllustrators: Ad Sarin, Ajanta Guhathakurta, Angie & Upesh, Priya Kuriyan, Rijuta Ghate, Rupa Prakash, Santosh Pujari, Soumya Menon, Suvidha Mistry, Tanaya Vyas.. \nEnglish \nOf Karuvadams and summer vacations \nAuthor: Vani Balaraman \nIllustrators: Ad Sarin, Ajanta Guhathakurta, Angie & Upesh, Priya Kuriyan, Rijuta Ghate, Rupa Prakash, Santosh Pujari, Soumya Menon, Suvidha Mistry, Tanaya Vyas.. \nCopyright © 2016, Pratham Books \nYou are free to make commercial use of this work. But like, most girls raised in the 60's, she was married off to a young man who worked in a small town in Tamil Nadu as an engineer. \nUnlike Bangalore which was a big city, living in the small town was a very different experience for Raji. The town was small and all she spotted were cashew forests at a distance. On some days, she longed to get back home to her city. Little did she know that this small town would soon be home for next 40 years of her life. \nShe was soon mother to a charming boy and a pretty girl. \nRaji also went on to become a mother to twin daughters. \nWith no sophisticated medical advancements in the late 70's , Raji knew that she was carrying twins only by the fifth month of her pregnancy . Her twin daughters were a delight and became a talk of the town! -after all no other family in the small town had twins. The twins played together, grew up together and even shared the same desk \nat school. \nIn an era where summer camps were unheard of , Raji went on to curate the \nbest summer activities for her twin daughters. \nFrom knitting and learning to make plastic bags and purses, to drawing \ncolorful kolams aka rangolis, Raji patiently engaged her twins. However the best activity the twins engaged in was setting up a golu aka dolls during Dusshera, and making paper packets of sundal (a snack prepared using various dals) and distributing to neighbours! \nSummer vacations were the best because Raji, a master chef delighted her kids with Neer Moru (chilled buttermilk), Paanagam (a sweet drink prepared using jaggery), fruit salads, and glasses of chilled Rasna from her kitchen! and not to forget a delightful mix of musk melon and sugar syrup that was allowed to set in the fridge, before the kids devoured them. There was also nungu (palm fruit), a local summer fruit that the family indulged in.... and how could they forget Pazhapayam, also known as jack fruit that grew in abundance in their small town! \nDining in restaurants was unheard of and neither could the family of six afford it in their small town. \nSo there was Pazhakottai sambar, Pazhaapayam payasam.. all of which was churned out from the home kitchen.","cbCaira7GZmaLrpV","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaira7GZmaLrpV","pdf",50798919,2,19,"English","en",105,"# Raji’s Early Dream and Move to a Small Town\n## Motherhood and Twins in the Late 1970s\n# Summer Activities and Home Traditions\n## Learning Crafts, Kolams, and Golu for Dusshera\n## Summer Food, Fruits, and Family Gatherings","[{\"question\":\"What food and drinks define the family’s summer vacations?\",\"answer\":\"The family enjoys chilled and local favorites prepared at home, including Neer Moru, Paanagam, fruit salads, Rasna, musk melon with sugar syrup set in the fridge, nungu, and Pazhapayam (jack fruit) dishes like sambar and payasam.\"}]",1784302721,29,{"code":4,"msg":30,"data":31},"ok",{"site_id":24,"language":23,"slug":32,"title":13,"keywords":33,"description":14,"schema_data":34,"social_meta":77,"head_meta":79,"extra_data":81,"updated_unix":27},"of-karuvadams-and-summer-vacations-summer-vacation-life-in-a-small-town","",{"@graph":35,"@context":76},[36,52,67],{"@type":37,"itemListElement":38},"BreadcrumbList",[39,43,46,49],{"item":40,"name":41,"@type":42,"position":11},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":44,"name":45,"@type":42,"position":20},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",{"item":47,"name":12,"@type":42,"position":48},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/story-novel/",3,{"item":50,"name":13,"@type":42,"position":51},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/of-karuvadams-and-summer-vacations-summer-vacation-life-in-a-small-town/91299/",4,{"url":50,"name":13,"@type":53,"author":54,"headline":13,"publisher":56,"fileFormat":59,"inLanguage":23,"description":14,"dateModified":60,"datePublished":61,"encodingFormat":59,"isAccessibleForFree":62,"interactionStatistic":63},"DigitalDocument",{"name":9,"@type":55},"Person",{"url":40,"name":57,"@type":58},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-07-27","2026-07-17",true,{"@type":64,"interactionType":65,"userInteractionCount":20},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":66},"ViewAction",{"@type":68,"mainEntity":69},"FAQPage",[70],{"name":71,"@type":72,"acceptedAnswer":73},"What food and drinks define the family’s summer vacations?","Question",{"text":74,"@type":75},"The family enjoys chilled and local favorites prepared at home, including Neer Moru, Paanagam, fruit salads, Rasna, musk melon with sugar syrup set in the fridge, nungu, and Pazhapayam (jack fruit) dishes like sambar and payasam.","Answer","https://schema.org",{"og:url":50,"og:type":78,"og:title":13,"og:site_name":57,"og:description":14},"article",{"robots":80,"canonical":50},"index,follow",{"doc_id":7,"site_id":24},{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":83},[84,87,91,95,100,105,110,115,120,123,127],{"id":11,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":12,"show_sort_weight":85,"slug":86},90,"story-novel",{"id":20,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":88,"show_sort_weight":89,"slug":90},"Literature",80,"literature",{"id":51,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":92,"show_sort_weight":93,"slug":94},"Exam",70,"exam",{"id":96,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":97,"show_sort_weight":98,"slug":99},5,"Comic",60,"comic",{"id":101,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":102,"show_sort_weight":103,"slug":104},6,"Technology",50,"technology",{"id":106,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":107,"show_sort_weight":108,"slug":109},7,"Healthcare",40,"healthcare",{"id":111,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":112,"show_sort_weight":113,"slug":114},8,"Research & Report",30,"research-report",{"id":116,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":117,"show_sort_weight":118,"slug":119},9,"Religion & Spirituality",20,"religion-spirituality",{"id":118,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":121,"show_sort_weight":118,"slug":122},"World Cup","world-cup",{"id":124,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":125,"show_sort_weight":124,"slug":126},10,"Lifestyle","lifestyle",{"id":21,"doc_module":4,"doc_module_name":45,"category_name":128,"show_sort_weight":96,"slug":129},"General","general"]
