I have never written a publisher’s letter that got anywhere near politics; in fact, I don’t think we have ever written about Republicans or Democrats, or even named a president. But on the cusp of the 2024 presidential election, I am compelled to talk about politics as it relates to healthcare. \n[The U.S. healthcare](The U.S. healthcare) system is so important to our nation and society, let me share a few statistics with you: \n1. GDP: The U.S. spent approximately $4.5 trillion on healthcare in 2022, representing about 18% of our nation’s GDP. This makes the U.S. the highest healthcare spenderin the world per capita. \n2. Uninsured Population: In 2022, about 27.5 million Americans (or 8.3% of the population) were without health insurance coverage. \n3. Chronic Disease Impact: Six in ten U.S. adults have a chronic disease, and four in ten adults have two or more chronic conditions. \n4. Healthcare Workforce: Over 22 million people are employed in the healthcare sector, making it one of the largest employers in the country. \n5. Aging Population: By 2030, 1 in 5 Americans will be aged 65 or older, significantly increasing the demand for healthcare services. \nEveryone in our industry knows how important healthcare is to our society and families. But sadly, our nation’s population as a whole does not. \nHealthcare is nowhere to be seen as a top issue for choosing our next president. I read many articles researching this publisher’s letter, asking Google repeatedly what the top issues voters were evaluating for who to pick in t","cbCaihmyVQYwfTTA","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaihmyVQYwfTTA","pdf",11544664,1,60,"English","en",105,"# Contents\n## Publisher’s Letter: Healthcare and the Upcoming Election\n## A More Synergetic Supply Chain\n## Predicting the Next Pandemic\n## AI offers healthcare supply chain wonder, wisdom, whimsy and weakness\n## ANAE: Facing Healthcare Challenges Headfirst\n## Today’s Research, Tomorrow’s Healthcare\n## A Provider Perspective On The Value Of Distribution\n## Supply Chain By the Numbers\n## Purchased Services: A tale of two opportunities\n## Industry News","[{\"question\":\"What is the theme of this October 2024 issue?\",\"answer\":\"The issue centers on how healthcare contracting and supply chain improvements support patient-centric healthcare delivery, with special emphasis on innovation and long-term progress.\"},{\"question\":\"What does the publisher’s letter address?\",\"answer\":\"It discusses healthcare in relation to the 2024 presidential election and highlights major healthcare-related statistics and concerns about political attention to healthcare.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the issue approach forecasting and AI in healthcare supply chains?\",\"answer\":\"It presents pandemic forecasting efforts from the CDC’s Center for Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics and cautions readers to separate fact from fiction when using AI-related narratives.\"}]","October 2024 Vol. 20 -
