It details the process of using the 'Section view' function to create a half-section representation, which can be easily inherited by existing 3D isometric views. The document explains how to define intersection lines using two points in an orthogonal view and offers instructions on how to refine the sectioned display by editing specific components in the settings. This streamlined workflow enhances the clarity of assembly documentation, making it an essential resource for engineers and designers seeking to optimize their CAD drafting practices. Authored by Dipl.-Ing. Hans-Jörg Seeland, this instructional material ensures that users of all common NX versions can effectively communicate internal design details through precise sectional modeling.",{"@graph":69,"@context":122},[70,84,105],{"@type":71,"itemListElement":72},"BreadcrumbList",[73,77,79,82],{"item":74,"name":75,"@type":76,"position":8},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",{"item":78,"name":9,"@type":76,"position":14},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/",{"item":80,"name":30,"@type":76,"position":81},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/technology/",3,{"item":83,"name":65,"@type":76,"position":19},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/nx-tipp-2021_05-drafting-3d-section-view-technical-guide/663818/",{"url":83,"name":65,"@type":85,"image":86,"author":91,"headline":65,"publisher":94,"fileFormat":97,"inLanguage":63,"description":67,"dateModified":98,"datePublished":99,"encodingFormat":97,"isAccessibleForFree":100,"interactionStatistic":101},"DigitalDocument",{"url":87,"@type":88,"width":89,"height":90},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/nx-tipp-2021_05-drafting-3d-section-view-technical-guide/663818.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":92,"@type":93},"Malam Tenang","Person",{"url":74,"name":95,"@type":96},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-30","2026-10-29",true,{"@type":102,"interactionType":103,"userInteractionCount":14},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":104},"ViewAction",{"@type":106,"mainEntity":107},"FAQPage",[108,114,118],{"name":109,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":111},"How do you define the intersection area for a section view in NX?","Question",{"text":112,"@type":113},"The intersection area is defined by two points in an orthogonal drawing view, with one point establishing the vertical line and the other the horizontal intersection line.","Answer",{"name":115,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":116},"Can an existing 3D isometric view inherit a section definition?",{"text":117,"@type":113},"Yes, by using the 'Orientation' option in the context menu and selecting 'Section Existing', you can apply a previously defined section to an existing 3D isometric view.",{"name":119,"@type":110,"acceptedAnswer":120},"Is it possible to hide specific components in an NX 3D section view?",{"text":121,"@type":113},"Yes, you can reactivate the 'Section view' dialogue window via the 'Edit' function and select the specific components that should not be displayed in the 'Settings' section.","https://schema.org",{"og:url":83,"og:type":124,"og:title":65,"og:site_name":95,"og:description":67},"article",{"robots":126,"canonical":83},"index,follow",{"doc_id":128,"site_id":62},663818,1793232398,{"code":4,"msg":5,"data":131},{"doc_id":128,"user_id":132,"nickname":92,"user_avatar":133,"doc_module":4,"category_id":29,"category_name":30,"doc_title":65,"doc_description":67,"doc_content":134,"file_id":135,"file_url":136,"file_type":137,"file_size":138,"view_count":14,"is_deleted":4,"is_public":8,"is_downloadable":8,"audit_status":8,"page_count":14,"language":139,"language_code":63,"site_id":62,"html_lang":63,"table_of_contents":140,"faqs":141,"seo_title":142,"seo_description":67,"update_tm":129,"read_time":24},962093532863,"https://ap-avatar.wpscdn.com/davatar_276721f389ce27ea32af1340a28f341c","An uncomplicated 3D drawing section view \nYou would like to display an assembly partially sectioned in an existing 3D view of the drawing? \nSection View \nThe result of a ‘half section’ of the ‘Section view’ function is shown in the two images above. \nThe intersection area can be defined quite simply by two points (one defines the vertical and one the horizontal intersection line) in an orthogonal drawing view (see image below) . \nBefore placing the section view on the right, press the right mouse button and select the‘Orientation’ option in the pull-down menu that opens. With ‘Section Existing’ you can now inherit the previously defined section definition to an existing view, e.g. a 3D isometric view. Simply select the isometric drawing view. \nThe defined section is then displayed in the selected 3D drawing view. \nFor example, using the ‘Edit’function from the context menu of the 3D \nview, you can reactivate the ‘Section view’ dialogue window and select the components that are not to be displayed in the ‘Settings’ section. \nThe procedure described above is available in all common NX versions. \nI would be delighted if this NX Smart tip was useful to you.
