This guide clarifies what exams for the NP and CNS are available today, what changes to exams are forthcoming, and what exams will be offered in the future. \nCURRENT NP AND CNS CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS \nThe following certification programs , which have been reviewed by the NCSBN APRN Committee and determined to meet the NCSBN Criteria for APRN Certification Exams (2002) will continue through the implementation period until 2015 as long as there are students in programs under existing curricula who require licensure. After 2015, current certificants will be allowed to renew their certification through existing renewal processes but not by examination. \nWe request that these certification categories be maintained by Boards of Nursing for the purpose of grandfathering this large group of practitioners who were educated and credentialed under existing regulatory models. \nAACN CERTIFICATION CORPORATION \n􀂃 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist – Adult \n􀂃 Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist – Pediatric \n􀂃 Acute and Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist – Neonatal \nAMERICAN ACADEMY OF NURSE PRACTITIONERS CERTIFICATION PROGRAM \n􀂃 Adult Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Family Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Gerontologic Nurse Practitioner \nAMERICAN NURSES CREDENTIALING CENTER \n􀂃 Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Adult Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Family Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Family Psych & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Gerontological Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Pediatric Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 School Nurse Practitioner (exam retired; renewal only) \n􀂃 Adult Health Clinical Nurse Specialist \n􀂃 Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist \n􀂃 Child Adolescent Psych & Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist \n􀂃 Clinical Nurse Specialist Core Exam (exam retired; renewal only) \n􀂃 Home Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (exam retired; renewal only) \n􀂃 Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist \n􀂃 Pediatric Clinical Nurse Specialist \n􀂃 Public\\Community Health Clinical Nurse Specialist \nTHE NATIONAL CERTIFICATION CORPORATION \n􀂃 Neonatal Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Women’s Health Care Nurse Practitioner \nPEDIATRIC NURSING CERTIFICATION BOARD \n􀂃 Acute Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner \n􀂃 Primary Care Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner \nCONSENSUS MODEL CHANGES \nWith implementation of the Consensus Model, the following changes will occur in Nurse Practitioner and Clinical Nurse Specialist certification examinations that will be used for regulatory purposes: \n􀂃 All Adult-only examinations will change to Adult-Gerontology examinations.
