The opening chapter emphasizes surveillance-like vigilance, coded self-checks, and the tension between appearing ordinary and carrying out intent. Details of his concealment, the attention of bystanders, and the layout of exits heighten suspense and establish a crime-thriller atmosphere centered on risk, timing, and control.","NO TIME TO GRIEVE \nDI SAM WINTER \nBOOK 2 \nED JAMES \nOCEANOFPDF.COM \nCONTENTS \nChapter 1 \nChapter 2 \nChapter 3 \nChapter 4 \nChapter 5 \nChapter 6 \nChapter 7 \nChapter 8 \nChapter 9 \nChapter 10 \nChapter 11 \nChapter 12 \nChapter 13 \nChapter 14 \nChapter 15 \nChapter 16 \nChapter 17 \nChapter 18 \nChapter 19 \nChapter 20 \nChapter 21 \nChapter 22 \nChapter 23 \nChapter 24 \nChapter 25 \nChapter 26 \nChapter 27 \nChapter 28 \nChapter 29 \nChapter 30 \nChapter 31 \nChapter 32 \nChapter 33 \nChapter 34 \nChapter 35 \nChapter 36 \nChapter 37 \nChapter 38 \nChapter 39 \nChapter 40 \nChapter 41 \nChapter 42 \nChapter 43 \nChapter 44 \nChapter 45 \nChapter 46 \nChapter 47 \nChapter 48 \nChapter 49 \nChapter 50 \nChapter 51 \nChapter 52 \nChapter 53 \nChapter 54 \nChapter 55 \nChapter 56 \nChapter 57 \nChapter 58 \nChapter 59 \nChapter 60 \nChapter 61 \nChapter 62 \nChapter 63 \nChapter 64 \nChapter 65 \nChapter 66 \nWinter Will Return In \nAfterword \nEd James Readers Club \n[OceanofPDF.com](OceanofPDF.com) \nCopyright © 2020, 2026 Ed James \nThe right of Ed James to be identified as the author of this work has been asserted in accordance with the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988. He had to step aside to let in an elderly couple, who were taking no prisoners in their pursuit of their morning coffee. His \ngun clunked against the edge of the metal door. \nStupid… \nHe looked around, but nobody seemed to notice. The old woman was now switching between ordering from the server and translating to her frail husband as he pressed his hearing aid deeper in. \nA count of ten, then he looked down at his shoes and saw the bottom of the ankle holster was exposed, showing the handle of the Glock 42 semiautomatic .38 pistol. Six inches long and weighing less than half a bag of sugar. Only six rounds, but he hoped he wouldn’t need to use even a single one. He crouched down, rested his coffee on the floor, then pulled his sock back up and his trouser leg down, tucking it in slightly. Just enough. \nWas he just being paranoid? Or did carrying a loaded pistol and planning what he was just about to do make him extra vigilant? \nTwo middle-aged women at another table folded away their purses, then put them back into handbags. Their lavender perfume was so thick he could taste it. \nMason grabbed his coffee from the floor and finally left the café . \nHe walked through the St James Centre, this level of the shopping centre curving around right across to John Lewis. A steady stream of people wandered in and out, some in groups, a lot of them solo, but mostly couples or pairs of friends. \nHe leaned against a pillar where he had a good view of the front door, then took a sip through the lid. Had to wipe the foam from his thick moustache, hoping he looked like just another man killing time with a drink, before doing something trivial on a random Tuesday in April. Just another bored dad checking his watch and sighing. \nThis new St James Centre was a weird hybrid of inside-outside space and he couldn’t decide if he liked it or not. Certainly an improvement on the old one.
