Ashley Calligy
Superintendent of Schools Supervisor of Guidance & Testing
October 3, 2025
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
We would like to inform you about an upcoming assessment for our students.
The New Jersey Department of Education, in partnership with Cambium Assessment, Inc. (CAI), is launching the New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-Adaptive (NJSLA-Adaptive) and the New Jersey Graduation Proficiency Assessment-Adaptive (NJGPA-Adaptive) . These assessments are replacing the current NJSLA and NJGPA, and are aligned with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards (NJSLS) for English Language Arts and Mathematics. They are designed to provide a more personalized, meaningful, and accurate measure of student learning.
About the Field Test:
The purpose of the field test is to evaluate the quality, clarity, and fairness of the assessment items before they are used in the live operational test this spring. During this fall field test administration:
● Students will answer a sampling of test questions (not a full-length test) .
● Results from this field test will not be reported to students, educators, or schools.
● The field test helps improve the quality of the assessment.
● Allows schools to practice administering the test, as well as students to practice the adaptive format in a low-stakes but formal testing environment.
Testing Window:
The NJSLA-Adaptive and NJGPA-Adaptive will begin with a fall field test administration. The fall field test administration window is from October 27th through November 14th.
Who Must Participate:

| Assessment | Students Required to Participate | Unit | Maximum Testing Time |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| NJSLA-Adaptive – ELA | All students who are currently in grades 4 through 10. | ELA-Reading
ELA-Writing | 60 minutes
120 minutes |
| NJSLA-Adaptive – Mathematics | Students currently in grades 4 through 9, and students who were enrolled in Algebra 1, Geometry, or Algebra 2 in the 2024-25 school year. | Mathematics | 60 minutes |
| NJGPA-Adaptive – ELA | All students in grade 11. | ELA-Reading
ELA-Writing | 60 minutes
120 minutes |
| NJGPA-Adaptive – Mathematics | There is no separate field test specific to NJGPA-Adaptive Mathematics; mathematics items are covered via the NJSLA-Adaptive Algebra 1 & Geometry item banks. | | |

Key Features of the Adaptive Format:
● Questions adjust based on student responses, creating a more personalized experience.
● Approved accommodations for students with specialized learning needs will continue to be provided.
For more information and practice tests, please visit the NJSLA-Adaptive/NJGPA-Adaptive Student & Families page. We appreciate your support as we work to ensure a smooth and effective testing process that benefits all students.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or your child’s building principal.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Ashley Calligy, Supervisor of Guidance & Testing
Cc: Dr. Jillian Torrento, Superintendent of Schools
Mrs. Dominique Vetrano, Director of Curriculum
Dr. Matthew Helfant, Director of Special Services
Mr. Vincenzo Barchini, High School Principal
Mr. Joseph Mastropietro, Middle School Principal
Mr. Michael Sickels, Euclid School Principal
Mr. Joseph Colangelo, Lincoln School Principal
201.393.8190 365 Boulevard | Hasbrouck Heights, New Jersey 07604 [www.hhschools.org](www.hhschools.org)","cbCaitX4ZXrHtXH1","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaitX4ZXrHtXH1","pdf",216694,"English","# About the Field Test
# Testing Window
# Who Must Participate
## NJSLA-Adaptive
## NJGPA-Adaptive
# Key Features of the Adaptive Format","[{"question":"What is the purpose of the NJSLA-Adaptive and NJGPA-Adaptive field test?","answer":"The field test evaluates the quality, clarity, and fairness of assessment items before they are used in the spring operational test.
