It explains survey objectives, methodology, reliability response rate and reports key respondent characteristics plus main destination results by sex.","Next Step Profiles  \nPost-school destinations of Year 12 completers Queensland  \n2022  \nIntroduction  \nThe Next Step Year 12 Completers survey is an annual survey of students who completed Year 12 and gained a Senior Statement in the previous year in Queensland at state, Catholic and independent schools, and TAFE secondary colleges. The survey results show the initial study and work destinations of young people after completing school.  \nThe objectives of the survey are to assist:  \n• parents and the wider public to know the pathways of young people after completing Year 12, and to appreciate the range of options available to students  \n• schools to review and plan their services for students, especially in the senior years of schooling  \n• school system personnel to review their education policies as they affect the transition from school to further study and employment • training bodies, universities, business and industry, local government and regional planners to plan their services.  \nThe word Indigenous in this document refers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people of Australia.  \nSurvey Methodology  \nThe Next Step Year 12 Completers survey is conducted by the Department of Education (DoE) through the Queensland Government Statistician’s Office (QGSO), in accordance with the provisions of the Statistical Returns Act 1896 (Qld) .  \nThe students surveyed were identified by means of a survey frame (or list) provided to the QGSO by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority. In 2022, this list contained details for 51,393 Year 12 completers who were deemed to be in-scope for the survey.  \nFieldwork for the survey is conducted between March and June each year, approximately six months after the young people finish school. This timing is designed to be after tertiary education places are accepted.  \nResponses were predominantly collected via computer-assisted telephone interviewing. Students were also offered the opportunity to complete the survey online. The survey methodology allowed for responses to be provided by a proxy. Allowable proxies included parents, siblings and other household members able to respond on behalf of the respondent.  \nSurvey findings  \nWhen considering the findings of the Next Step Year 12 Completers survey it is important to note that the post-school destinations of all school leavers are influenced by the environment in which they are transitioning. This can limit the options available to young people and alter their intended post-school pathways.  \nFor example, the availability of employment opportunities is dependent on the local and broader macroeconomic outlook.
