\nThe general public and historians arenow becoming aware of the drama andsignificance of the Civil War invasionof New Mexico by Texas Confederatetroops in 1861-62.Columns of Unionforces from Colorado and Californiajoined Union regulars and Territorialmilitia to force a victory. \nThis checklist describes, with full an-notation and comments,thirty-twobooks and pamphlets published in theperiod 1861-1961,dealing importantlywith the military campaigns in NewMexico. \nDr.Lawrence Clark Powell,Dean ofthe School of Library Service,Univer-sity of California at Los Angeles,says:\"I want to salute includes a group of\"recom-mended”titles.It is simply an annotated checklist ofthirty-two volumes and pamphlets that deal importantlywith the Civil War campaigns in New Mexico during theyears 1861 and 1862. \nThese are the published works quoted most frequentlyby authors who have written on the Civil War in this region, plus a few items that writers have overlooked previously. As in the case of any similar effort, the compiler of thisbibliography undoubtedly will be advised of important omis-sions.This is one of the functions of any bibliography:tobecome a focal point for further listings on the subject. \nThis list includes only published books and pamphlets.Omitted are manuscripts, articles, unpublished theses,broad-sides,newspapers and documents from military archives, although their omission is no attempt to lessen their value.Periodicals of many historical associations in the Southwestcontain important articles. The standard histories of NewMexico, such as those by Bancroft,Coan,Twitchell andothers, review the Civil War period in the state, but sincethese works are panoramic they have been omitted fromthis specialized checklist \nThe Civil War began with the firing upon Fort Sumter,in the East,on April 12,1861.For all practical purposes, military action between Confederate and Union forces inNew Mexico ended in July,1862,when the last Confederatetroops left the state.Other Civil War military and politicalevents in New Mexico after this date, such as the campaign \nagainst the Navajos, are not included in the scope of thisbibliography. \nEntries in this bibliography follow a simplified formatthat is more or less standard.A few explanations may helpreaders not familiar with such style:The item described isalways the first edition.Height of the book or pamphlet isgiven in centimeters(cm.).A hard-bound book is generallysaid to be\"cloth;\"pamphlet-style binding,in paper covers,is described as\"wrappers.\"If the item contains portraits, the abbreviation \"ports.\"is used. When the item has beennoted by leading bibliographers, such as D","cbCaijtV2CCyrUkS","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijtV2CCyrUkS","pdf",2165590,52,"English","#
