In a kitchen confrontation tied to dispatch calls and an active investigation, the narrator searches frantically for medication, only to discover an incongruous object hidden in a cabinet. The sudden revelation of a blood-stained knife escalates dread and forces a collision between private panic and professional scrutiny, setting a suspense-driven tone that carries through prologue and all subsequent chapters.","NEVER LEAVE \nOCEANOFPDF. I stumble toward the kitchenette. I can feel him in the corner watching me. Suddenly, the radio on his shoulder crackles. \n“Dispatch to 5212, confirm your location. Supervisor from the scene needs your statement.” \nMy head feels like it’s splitting open. \nI reach up and rip open the first cabinet. Mugs. \nNo painkillers here. \nShit. I can’t remember where I put it. \nI drop to my knees, the hardwood stinging my shins. I fling open the lower cabinets. Pots. Pans. Not here either. \nDetective McLeod looks over at me from where he’s sitting at my kitchen table.“Everything okay over there?” \n\"Fine,\" I choke out. \"Just... looking.\" \nThe radio crackles again on the officer ’s shoulder. “Copy, Dispatch. 5212 is busy. Canvass is still ongoing at the secondary perimeter.” \nI scramble back to my feet and open the last cabinet on the far right. The door swings out between me and the rest of the kitchen, blocking their view of me. \nFinally. There it is, my little yellow bottle. \nI reach up to grab it, but as my hand rises, my eyes drop to the first shelf. \nDeep in the shadows, shoved beside a stack of plates, is something that doesn't belong. \nA wooden handle. Dark, worn wood. \nWhat? \nA knife handle? \nI freeze. My hand is suspended in mid-air. \nI know I don't own a knife like that. \nI was in this cabinet a few days ago and there was nothing on that shelf but dust and a stack of ceramic dinner plates. \nI lean closer, my breath hitching in my throat. My shadow falls across the shelf, but I still catch the glint of steel. \nI gasp. \nOh my God. \nI dart a look past the cabinet door. Detective McLeod is still sitting atthe table, now staring at his phone. The other officer is standing where he was, not moving, not saying anything. \nThen McLeod glances up and looks straight at me. \nMy stomach rolls hard. \n“Found it yet, Ms. Robichaud?” \nMy throat closes. I can’t get a word out. So I just smile nervously and nod like an idiot. \nI pray he can’t tell I’m panicking. \nThen I turn back to the cabinet. \nNO. \nPlease no! \nI don","cbCaimF7b4bI3gof","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaimF7b4bI3gof","pdf",2847380,5,297,"English","en",105,"# Prologue\n# Chapter 1\n# Chapter 2\n# Chapter 3\n# Chapter 4\n# Chapter 5\n# Chapter 6\n# Chapter 7\n# Chapter 8\n# Chapter 9\n# Chapter 10\n# Chapter 11\n# Chapter 12\n# Chapter 13\n# Chapter 14\n# Chapter 15\n# Chapter 16\n# Chapter 17\n# Chapter 18\n# Chapter 19\n# Chapter 20\n# Chapter 21\n# Chapter 22\n# Chapter 23\n# Chapter 24\n# Chapter 25\n# Chapter 26\n# Chapter 27\n# Chapter 28\n# Chapter 29\n# Chapter 30\n# Chapter 31\n# Chapter 32\n# Chapter 33\n# Chapter 34\n# Chapter 35\n# Chapter 36\n# Chapter 37\n# Chapter 38\n# Chapter 39\n# Chapter 40\n# Chapter 41\n# Chapter 42\n# Chapter 43\n# Chapter 44\n# Chapter 45\n# Chapter 46\n# Chapter 47\n# Chapter 48\n# Epilogue\n# Author’s Note","[{\"question\":\"What sets the tone at the beginning of Never Leave?\",\"answer\":\"The prologue quickly establishes escalating distress, radio dispatch updates, and mounting fear as the narrator searches her kitchen under pressure.\"},{\"question\":\"What does the narrator discover during the cabinet search?\",\"answer\":\"Hidden in the cabinet is a knife handle and a blade with dried, crimson, blood-like residue, creating an immediate threat and shock.\"},{\"question\":\"How do the officers affect the narrator’s situation?\",\"answer\":\"Detective McLeod and another officer are present nearby, and their attention, questions, and radio communications intensify the narrator’s panic and scrutiny.\"}]","Never Leave -
