Within minutes, it’s got a thousand likes.  \nWith a sigh, I drop my phone in the cup holder. The view outside is much nicer than a screen. I’m getting very, very tired of looking at screens .  \nOn this winding road, a sea of trees washes down the mountain and into the valley below. We keep going higher, so far up that the world below feels like some distant planet.  \n“Long drive for a photo shoot,” I say, head resting against the glass.  \n“I’m telling you, it’ll be worth it.” Danny smiles at me from the driver ’s seat, sipping his iced latte.“Trust me, I come out here all the time.”  \nI doubt that. Danny is a nice guy, but photography seems to be the only thing he’s got any experience in. He’s rail thin, pale, and dresses too nicely to be some secret outdoor adventurer.  \nStill, he’s never steered me wrong, so I’ll go along with today’s itinerary.  \nA photo shoot in the woods.  \nBeing an internet model is, if I’m being honest, pretty boring. Sure, free clothes from brands that want exposure to my followers are nice, and I can’t deny that having thousands of people tell me I’m gorgeous feels great, but that’s really all there is to it.  \nI wear nice clothes, smile, and show some leg.  \nDon’t judge me, please. It’s paying for my college tuition.  \nWe park at a trailhead well off the mountain highway. Danny gets all his camera equipment ready to go, and I slip on my hiking boots. We’ve got a handful of outfits for the shoot today, but I won’t change until we get to this amazing spot Danny claims exists.  \n“It’s only a couple of miles,” he says, slinging a camera around his skinny neck.“There’s a river. We’ll get some insane shots there with the  \nsunset. Trust me, Vanessa, these are going to blow up.”  \n“If you say so .”  \nWe start off on the trail, a flat lane of dirt that cuts through the brush. Once we can’t see the car anymore, I hear a motorcycle grumble. That’s funny, I saw a motorcycle not too far behind us on the road. Maybe another hiker out enjoying the sunset? The noise stops. All I hear now is the sound of our boots crunching dirt and leaves.  \nMy boots are brand new and stiff. A thorny branch snags on my shirt, and a pinecone falls and hits a rock near me . I don’t think the woods are my jam…  \n“Do we really have to go that far out?” I whine, swatting away a bug buzzing in my ear.“Did you bring bug spray? What about snacks?”  \n“You’re fine,” Danny laughs, storming out ahead.“Come on!”  \nI sigh, hands on my hips.“Hiking sucks…”  \nThe backpack with all my outfits digs hard into my shoulders.
