Dodo’s design fingerprints were everywhere, except in Lizzie and Ernie’s quarters and Rupert’s study. The aging place had been transformed from an elegant old lady to a modern flapper in terms of design. Gone was the intricate, wood wainscot, replaced by smooth walls, mirrors everywhere and tubular, chrome furniture.  \n“Hello, Ernie. Phew! What a crazy adventure.” Rupert handed his coat and hat to the valet.“We got stranded in Calais due to bad weather and ended up having to stay three extra days in a ghastly hotel. The upside was, we made some interesting new friends.”  \n“Actually, they’re coming to stay at the end of the week,” added Dodo.“They said they were coming to London after a short stay in Dover, and had  \nno set plans, so we invited them here.”  \n“Guests already?” chuckled Lizzie, rolling her eyes.“I shouldn’t be surprised.”  \n“How was the honeymoon, sir?” asked Ernie, smoothing the wrinkles out of the scarf.  \n“Simply, marvelous!” cried Dodo, twirling.“Carcassonne is an untouched beauty. The castle is sublime. We stayed at the Hotel de la Cité . You should have seen the medieval room, Lizzie, with a huge fireplace like the one at Hampton Court. Of course, we didn’t need it because the weather was so beautiful. And it had an enormous balcony with the most spectacular view of the fort. You could almost reach out and touch it.”  \n“Sounds wonderful.” Lizzie laid the fur coat over her arm.  \n“We have lunch laid out for you in the dining room,” said Ernie.“It’scold cuts, since we weren’t exactly sure when you would be arriving.
