The University is owned by the governments of the member countries, and the main campus, Laucala, is in Suva , Fiji. There are also sites in the Cook Islands, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. USP offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees comparable to those awarded by universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. The University also produces respected research in areas including Pacific studies, marine studies, agriculture, science, and technology.  \nCredit Points  \nThe University has a detailed credit points system, and credit transfer policy. The credit points system drew upon extensive surveys of student reports of the time spent across a variety of learning-related activities (formal classes and tutorials, self-study, preparation for tests & exams, etc. ), and is consistent with The Bologna Model. The Senate considered and approved the Credit Points Policy & Procedures based on the Bologna Model with 60 credit points being a year’s work. Drawing on the Credit Points Policy.  \nCredits Earned  \nAt USP, 100-level courses are typically equivalent to 200-level courses in the U.S. , 200-level courses are equivalent to 300-level courses, and 300-level courses are equivalent to 400-level courses. Please also note that students lacking essential prerequisite courses may be challenged by the lecturer at USP and denied a seat in the course. Any courses atthe 400 level or above are prohibited.  \nCredit Hours. Each course meets about 3-4 hours per week in lectures and required discussions (tutorials) + about 6-8 hours of self-directed readings and assignments or field trips.
