Thank you for choosing to be a part of APHUG. Upon entering an AP class it is important to have some background knowledge and skills. All requirements listed below should be completed by the first day of school. \nPART I – Unit 1 of Textbook (.pdflink here) \nWhile you are not required to take notes, if you do (and I highly recommend you do) all notes must be written BY HAND, in a notebook. Don’t annotate. I suggest Cornell Notes. You are expected to know the vocab and examples given. You don’t need to do the quiz questions at the end of each module. \nPART II – Pittsburgh in 50 Maps (.pdflink here) \nWhy are we reading it? We are literally studying geography in the city of Pittsburgh! Same notes recommendations/requirements as Part I – Unit 1. Know where the main \nneighborhoods/districts of the city are – Downtown, Strip District, Hill District, Oakland, South Side, North Side, East Liberty. You will also be expected to have a basic knowledge of the topic presented in each map – focus on “big picture” takeaways and basic geography of where things are in the city. Don’t worry much about minute details. There ARE NOT 50 maps on the .pdf, just know the ones on the .pdf. \nPART III – Geography Skills \nYou need to know the 50 US states and where they are located. You also are expected to know the following 67 countries – the biggest countries in terms of population and/or the countries with the largest economies (in GDP) . \nAfghanistan \nAlgeria \nAngola \nArgentina \nAustralia \nAustria \nBangladesh \nBelgium \nBrazil \nCanada \nChile \nChina \nColombia \nCoted'Ivoire \nCzechia \nDenmark \nDR Congo \nEgypt \nEthiopia \nFinland \nFrance \nGermany \nGhana \nHong \nKong \nIndia \nIndonesia \nIran \nIreland \nIsrael \nItaly \nJapan \nKazakhsta \nn \nKenya \nMalaysia \nMexico \nMorocco \nMozambique \nMyanmar \nNetherlands \nNew Zealand \nNigeria \nNorway \nPakistan \nPeru \nPhilippines \nPoland \nPortugal \nRomania \nRussia \nSaudi Arabia \nSingapore \nSouth Korea \nSpain \nSudan \nSweden \nSwitzerland \nTaiwan \nTanzania \nThailand \nTurkey \nUganda \nUkraine \nUnited Arab Emirates \nUnited Kingdom \nUnited States \nUzbekistan \nVietnam \nYemen","cbCaikU2H3AlYL8l","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikU2H3AlYL8l","pdf",109787,"English","# Part I – Unit 1 of Textbook\n## Notes and study expectations\n# Part II – Pittsburgh in 50 Maps\n## Neighborhoods and map takeaways\n# Part III – Geography Skills\n## U.S. states and 67 countries","[{\"question\":\"What are the required tasks by the first day of school for APHUG Summer Work 2026?\",\"answer\":\"Complete Part I (Unit 1 of the textbook), Part II (“Pittsburgh in 50 Maps”), and Part III Geography Skills as listed in the guide.\"},{\"question\":\"How should students take notes for Unit 1 and Pittsburgh in 50 Maps?\",\"answer\":\"Notes must be written by hand in a notebook, and students should not annotate; Cornell Notes are suggested.\"},{\"question\":\"What geographic knowledge must students learn in Part III?\",\"answer\":\"Students must know the 50 U.S. states and their locations, and also know 67 countries listed in the document, focusing on basic geography and locations rather than minute details.\"}]","Mr. Williams - AP Human Geography - Summer Work 2026 | PDF",1790692364]
