The first of these was i n early 2007 , when I had one of those lightbulb moments , of which one should always beware. Influenced – and disappointed – by the cancellation of Volkswagen’s exciting GX3 project , I suddenly decided , at about four o’clock one morning , that the Morgan Motor Company should start making three-wheelers again , after a hiatus of nearly 60 years.  \nVW’s decision to abandon the GX3 was an opportunity missed , and an uncharacteristic outbreak of pusillanimity on the part of Dr Ferdinand Piëch , who is renowned for his ability to stop charging grizzly bears in their tracks , and convince lurking alligators to slide back into the murky river by staring at them disdainfully. The GX3 could have become the first volume-production three-wheeler in automobile history , and it might even have re-invented the sports car. Perhaps the German group will go back to it one day.  \nAt that time , the Morgan Motor Company , or more specifically Charles Morgan , who then ran the show , was vehemently opposed to the idea of producing a three-wheeler , but this negative attitude changed dramatically a couple of years later.
