Sundaycolumn for the Contra Costa Valley Timesin Walnut Creek,California. He wasworking in construction at that time andone day a man came out to talk to himon the job.He said he was from thepaper and they were interested in himfilling a newly vacated position, writingthe “Poet's Corner”same type thing that \nhe had already been doing. He also said theythought Dale created too many emotions withhis Poetry and they wantedto dictate the subjects he wrote about. \nDale asked how much would that pay andthe man said $50 per week.Being young, proud and a little arrogant,Dalesaid,\"Thanks,but no thanks.\" \nLater,Dale found out that it would havebeen syndicated.Who knows how manynewspapers it would appear in?Maybe \nsometimes we shouldn't make snap decisionsbefore asking more questions? That one couldhave changed his whole life! \nLooking back Dale has said,\"But -would I have wanted to?” \n# THE STORY BEHIND“CHICKEN GEORGE”\n\nThis was a time my brother Victor Inesswas a Real Estate man in Washington Stateand he bought this beautiful property on theDechutes River. \nThough he wasn't a farmer,he wanted togive his family the enjoyment of country living. He bought some horses for his son anddaughter to ride and a few chickens, one ofwhich was a rooster that grew up to be huge -and the“Cock of the Walk.” \nEven their big shaggy dog,Toby and thecat gave him respect. As big as George was,you wouldn't think he could fly too well, but heflew to the tops of the trees! One by one thechickens disappeared, prey to the many \npredators who lived on that property, like Fox,Mink,Skunks, etc.,but none were a match forGeorge.","cbCaikTl8E8MYjeE","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikTl8E8MYjeE","pdf",3041611,76,"English","# Moodsof\n## Introduction\n## The Story Behind \"Chicken
