It is meant as a supplement for the Monstrous Uprising Additional Encounter within The Rise of Tiamat adventure, but could be used in any campaign setting by replacing mentions of the Dragon Cult with an appropriate faction.  \nSeethe Conclusion for rules on reducing the difficulty of the adventurefor low level parties.  \nBeginning the Adventure  \nMonstrous Uprising is meant to be used as a single‐session diversion, showing the playershow Tiamat's rise has emboldened evil creatures that aren't directly serving the Dragon Queen. The setting of the adventure is a series of mines that can be placed anywhere along the Sword Coast cliffs. Use the following hook to draw the heroes coastward.  \nHighway Robbery  \nIf the heroes are currently in a settlement, usher them toward the open road. Once they begin travelling, read the following aloud.  \nA group of Lizardfolk, led by a Winged Kobold, is hanging about in the middle of the road up ahead. The Lizardfolk are yipping to each other in Draconic, while the Winged Kobold keeps an eye on the road.  \nThe crowd is composed of a Winged Kobold (named Abaza) and 3 Lizardfolk.  \nIf the heroes approach the creatures, Abaza will break away from the crowd and address them. He will demand a \"tithe\" of a two gold pieces per person, claiming that it is his birthright as one of Tiamat's Chosen ‐ a Dragonwrought.  \nIf the heroes part with this gold piece easily, Abaza will sense their wealth and demand thirty more per person.  \nIf the heroes attack the reptilian group, they will meet relatively minor resistance. The creatures have 21 gold pieces and 35 silver pieces (currency which they've stolen from travelers) . Abaza is carrying a letter from his band's ringleader, a half‐dragon named Saluuk.  \nIf a Draconic‐speaking character reads the note, read the following aloud.  \nDragonwrought Abaza. I have won the Lizardfolk from Ruined Cliff to our cause. They are empty headed, but strong. Take them eastward to the human settlements. We have need of gold and strong spears.  \nHelmbreaker Mines  \nThe Helmbreaker Mines were abandoned forty years earlier, when the last of the Helmbreaker lineage passed away without an heir. Since the facility's abandonment, a group of Kobolds has taken up residence in the mines. They have stripped the mine of plunder, selling ore and trinkets to the Lizardfolk tribe of nearby Ruined Cliff in exchange for food.  \nThe tunnels of the mine are driven into the side of the Sword Coast cliffs, reachable only by a series of ladders and worn scaffolding. The first sight that greets the adventurers when they reach the Helmbreaker Mines is the rotting wood workhouse that used to function as employee quarters and storage.  \n . Torch sconces are mounted on the tunnel walls every few dozen feet. The mine tunnels should be considered to have dim light, unless otherwise specified in the room description.  \n1. The Workhouse  \nThe old wooden workhouse is rotting and creaks alarmingly in the seaside wind. The only door on the south side of the building is jammed shut (boarded up from the inside), but several windows on the eastside of the building can be destroyed or forced open with ease. Inside, the workhouse in divided into two rooms by a tattered blue curtain.  \n The Employee Quarters are on the south side of the partition, and the door leading back outside of the Workhouse is on the southern‐most wall. The heroes will now be able to see that it is clearly boarded shut.
