A Keeper’s duties include creating or slowly revealing the steps of the story for investigators, moderating conflicts, and answering the players’questions about the scene their characters are in. \nThese rules are designed to sit alongside the main Call of Cthulhu rules, working the same way as much as possible and providing the answers a Keeper would give you, and more. \nFrom the main rules, it says: \nTHE BASICS OF SOLO \nThe absolute core of solo roleplaying has to be the yes-no question. When you ask a question of this type, you need to be prepared for both the positive and negative answers. \nPart of the skill of a great Keeper is keeping an investigation moving forward. This is often called failing forward. What it means is that, should the investigator fail to find the clue, fail to capture the suspect or even get their man, extract the information and then completely misinterpret what they have learned, the keeper still needs to keep the game being fun. Spending hours beating your head against a brick wall and making no progress is not fun for anyone. Failing forward \nMost of the play is a verbal exchange. The keeper sets the scene, describing the environment, the individuals, and encounters to the players. The players tell the keeper what they intend their investigators to do. The keeper then tells them whether they can do it and, if not, what happens instead. In play the game takes the form of a group conversation with many twists and turns and fun on the way. \nThe game rules use dice to determine if an action succeeds or fails when a dramatic ‘conflict’ presents itself—for example, whether your investigators are able to leap out of the way of a giant statue that is about to crash down upon their heads! The rules describe how to decide the outcome of such conflicts. \nmeans that if you fail to find one clue, something else presents itself. Think ofit as ‘there is always another way’. \nYou are stood in a London street looking up at Prof. Hamilton’s townhouse, you ask if there are signs of anyone at home. \nIn this case, the yes or no of the situation does not change anything in the grand scheme, if there are lights on, the door will be answered more quickly than if you have to wake the sleeping professor. \nIs the question important enough to ask? It is if you are being pursued and are looking for a safe place to get help. Those extra few minutes may mean life or death. \nWhere traditionally there would be the back and forth of conversation, you can imagine your investigator’s environment and the NPCs, the simple rules in this book can answer the questions that would fall to the keeper and the regular rules handle the success and failure when your investigator tries to jump out of the way of that giant statue. \nThe way that questions are answered depends on how you ask the question. If you are looking for a simple yes-no, there is a simple roll for that. If you need more, such as when you are reading a missing professor’s journal or eavesdropping on a conversation, there is a tool for that as well. \nAs this book progresses, there will be ample examples of how each tool is used. \nThe more open questions give you an answer in the form of a two-word pair. This subject/verb pairing then needs to be looked at in the context of your situation. \nQuestions ar","cbCaiqP5g28bNaxl","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiqP5g28bNaxl","pdf",3619865,15,"English","# Table of Contents\n## Monophobia\n## The Basics of Solo\n## Failing Forward\n## Yes-No Questions","[{\"question\":\"What does “monophobia” mean in the text?\",\"answer\":\"Monophobia is defined as an irrational or disproportionate fear of being alone.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the book help players run Call of Cthulhu without a Keeper?\",\"answer\":\"It provides rule-based tools to answer the kinds of questions a Keeper would normally handle, including scene and investigation interactions, so the game can proceed solo.\"},{\"question\":\"Why are yes-no questions central to solo play here?\",\"answer\":\"The text states the absolute core is the yes-no question, because the player must be prepared for both positive and negative answers while keeping the story moving forward.\"}]","Monophobia - Solo Roleplaying In The World of Call of Cthulhu - Monophobia noun | PDF",1791310739,23]
