Metal wires join Diffusion or poly-------contacts are formed. \n• Design rules are communication link b/w the designer specifying requirements and fabricator who materializes them. VLSI design aims to translate circuit concepts onto silicon. \n• First set of Design rules were introduced by Lambda based. \n• Mask design is aimed at turning a specification into masks for processing silicon to meet the specification. \n• Stick Diagrams may be used to convey the layer information through the use of colour code. \n• Note: For Depletion mode transistor, Implant within the thin oxide is a must. \n• Stick diagram and mask layout is one and the same ,but in mask layout ,aspect ratio (L:W) & distance between any dimensions has to be shown. \n• Nwell CMOS inverter: \nIn CMOS ,we have both pmos and nmos on same substrate, so we take P-substrate and create n-well. \nApply VDD to all well in mask layout. \n• N-well CMOS circuit are superior to p-well because of lower substrate bias effects on transistor threshold and inherently low parasitic capacitances associated with source and drain regions. \n• For students ,some of the hints are: \nif transistors are in parallel-----construct active layer in U shape . \nif transistors are in series combination-----construct active layer in \nzigzag shape. \nDemarcation Line ( Brown ) - - - - - \nIn mask layout , n-well has to be created. \nP-type transistors are placed above and n-type are place below the demarcation line. \n• In cmos ,no depletion tr is used. \n• In cmos ,Diffusion path must not cross demarcation line. \n• n Diffusion and Diffusion wires must not join. ‘n’ and ‘p’ features are normally joined by metal where a connection is needed. \n• We should not forget to place a cross on Vdd and Vss rails to represent the substrate and p well respectively. \n• Metal and poly-silicon can cross demarcation line. \n▪Does not show \n•Exact placement of components \n•Transistor sizes \n•Wire lengths, wire widths, tub boundaries. \n•Any other low level details such as parasitics.. \nENCODING FOR SINGLE METAL NMOS PROCESS \nEncodings for CMOS process \nN type enhancement mode transistor \nG \nS D \nSYMBOL \nSTICK DIAGRAM \nP-diffusion 2λ x 2λ \nN diffusion \nMASK LAYOUT \nN type depletion mode transistor \nSTICK DIAGRAM \nG \nSYMBOL \nMASK LAYOUT \nP type enhancement mode transistor \nin cmos p-well process \nSYMBOL","cbCaieYmevQ8jxua","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaieYmevQ8jxua","pdf",1114255,34,"English","# Introduction\n## Stick diagrams and design rules\n## Mask design vs stick diagrams\n## CMOS concepts: n-well and p-well\n## Placement hints and demarcation line rules\n# Encodings for single metal NMOS process\n## CMOS encodings and transistor types","[{\"question\":\"What is a stick diagram in VLSI design and what does it convey?\",\"answer\":\"A stick diagram is a symbolic layout method where designers use coloured lines to represent different process layers.
