As these attacks continue to evolve in complexity and scale, traditional mitigation techniques may prove insufficient. This research explores the application of machine learning algorithms as an intelligent and adaptive approach to enhance DDoS detection and mitigation in cloud environments. The study leverages the dynamic and scalable nature of cloud computing to implement a robust defence mechanism against DDoS attacks. Machine learning models, such as supervised and unsupervised learning algorithms, are trained on network traffic data to identify patterns indicative of DDoS activity. The proposed system adapts to evolving attack strategies and is capable of real-time analysis, ensuring swift responses to emerging threats. \nKeywords: distributed denial of service, machine learning models, cloud computing. \n1 BACKGROUND \nCloud computing has become a fundamental paradigm in the realm of information technology, offering unprecedented scalability, flexibility, and accessibility for a wide range of applications and services. However, the widespread adoption of cloud computing has also made cloud environments lucrative targets for malicious activities, with Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks emerging as a prominent threat.DDoS attacks involve overwhelming a target system with a flood of traffic, rendering it inaccessible to legitimate users. The scale and sophistication of these attacks have increased over time, exploiting vulnerabilities in traditional security measures. In the context of cloud computing, where resources are shared among multiple users and services, the impact of DDoS attacks can be particularly severe, affecting not only individual entities but the entire cloud ecosystem.Traditional DDoS mitigation techniques often rely on rule-based systems, signature-based detection, and manual intervention, which may struggle to adapt to the dynamic nature of cloud environments and the evolving tactics of DDoS attackers.
