desert.TheGospel said that Our Lord took pity onthem since they were like sheep that hadno shepherd and began to give them longinstruction. When it was already late,His Disciples came to Him and said,\"Thisis a lonely place, and it is late already;give them leave to go to the farms andvillages round about and buy themselvesfood there. They have nothing to eat.” \nIt is interesting to note that Our BlessedLord instructed them before He workedthe miracle of the loaves and fishes tofeed them. \nThe Disciples were in favor of sendingthe multitude away,to let them drift inthe cities and villages round about and \nthere buy themselves scanty provisions.Even those who are close to the Lord, suchas the Disciples, are tempted to shuffleoff responsibility for the world's hunger. Our Blessed Lord said to them,\"It is foryou to give them food to eat.\" \nThe Disciples themselves were hungry, but they had little provision among them-selves.Our Lord then asked them.Howmany loaves have you?”They told Him,\"five loaves and two fishes.\"The point isthat we must always make sacrifices forothers, even when our gifts seem inade-quate to their wants. In the mission world,no missionary ever gets what he wants. He must barely be satisfied with absoluteneeds. There can be no luxury in the mis-sion world.Possibly that is why the prin-cipal supporters of the Holy Father's mis-sions are the poor. But their very smallgift is at the same time a great sacrificeand by the Lord's blessing,it is madeenough for all. \nIt is the sacrifice in it which constitutesthe value of every offering presented toGod.We might have supposed that with \nHis infinite power,He would have de-spised so trivial a supply as you can give, namely the dollar snatched from yoursmall salary,or a portion of your savings. But God always uses what man has asfar as it will go.When man can do nothing,God does all;but when man can do any-thing,God requires he should do it to theutmost. \nThe pagan world shall be won to Christ, not independent of human efforts, bothon the part of the missionaries abroadand on the part of the lovers of the mis-sions at home;it will be done as a resultof God's work through them. \nConcerning all that we can offer ofwealth,or of a tiny sacrifice of a few centsa day,or jewels,or a large proportion ofour savings which will be in disputethrough a will at the end of our lives—toall of these Our Lord says,\"Bring themhither to me.”You cannot bring them anycloser to Our Blessed Lord than when yougive them to His Vicar on earth, the HolyFather. The Society for the Propagation ofthe Faith is his own society and the onemission society of the world that aids all \nof the missions. As the hungry wereanxious to receive food from the handsof Our Lord directly,so the pagans andthe missionaries are anxious to receivefood directly from the Vicar of Christ一which he recei","cbCaid1h1UHJzIL6","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaid1h1UHJzIL6","pdf",1271670,52,"English","# Grow up
