Mind Flayers got over their fear of the arcane? What if instead of cowering in fear and paranoia, they truly applied their powerful intellect and rational analytical minds to their own beliefs and culture, and saw past their traditions and their fear to what they could  \nachieve if they put all that aside, rejected limiting cultural traditions, and siezed their potential?  \nWhy do mind flayers, geniuses all by humanoid standards, handicap themselves with an irrational rejection of the arcane? It's a powerful tool. One that had been used to against them to great effect countless times before. Many explanations are provided in official source material: that it seemed inferior to them; that lesser races used it and so it was beneath them; that the gith used it to overthrow them in the past, leaving them in terror of the arcane; or even that it was an alien power that did not fit their nature as beings touched by the Far Realms. None of those reasons is sufficient to explain why a race of geniuses proud of their minds and their analytical utilitarian rationality would so vehemently reject the arcane when it is empirically highly effective. Mind Flayers should be the greatest race of spellcasters ever known.  \nPerhaps they just needed an objective beyond-genius level outside perspective to clarify things for them. Here, this comes in the form of the Ur-Mind, one of the eldest of all Noble Aboleth Savants, alive during the fall of their own great empire at the hands of the gods themselves. A being who has spat into the eye of divinity personally and survived to plot vengeance over untold ages. The Ur-Mind provides a philosophical kick in the mind flayer's floaty pants.
