It explains that normal deliveries across the kingdom are handled by trained, licensed, and state-supervised midwives. The paper links effectiveness to reduced puerperal fever, citing long-term declines in reported cases and presenting comparative rate differences against the United States (birth-registration area). It includes table data and administrative context from Denmark’s National Board of Health, highlighting antiseptics and aseptics as key knowledge areas.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/","Healthcare",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/midwifery-in-denmark-paper-delivered-at-the-fifth-annual-conference-of-state-directors-in-charge-of-the-local-administration-of-the-maternity-and-infancy-act-1928/323794/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/midwifery-in-denmark-paper-delivered-at-the-fifth-annual-conference-of-state-directors-in-charge-of-the-local-administration-of-the-maternity-and-infancy-act-1928/323794.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Logic","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-10-23","2026-09-21",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",6,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"How are normal deliveries handled in Denmark, according to the paper?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"Normal deliveries throughout the kingdom are left to midwives, a system that has been established for many years. \nBy DoROTHY RD MENDENHALI,M.D. \nIt was my good fortune to have the opportunity of revisitingDenmark in the spring of 1926 after a lapse of over 30 yearsTheimpressions of youth are often dispelled as illusions when reap-praised by eyes more accustomed to seeing below the surface ofthings, but my early impression of Copenhagen as the original of“spotless town”was strengthened by my second visit, while newpoints of excellence kept constantly appearing. To my more criti-cal adult eyes the orderliness of Copenhagen seemed even more strik-ing than the cleanliness.System and simplicity seemed to be thekeynote of governmental activities, including the health program ofthe Government. \nKnowing that Denmark shares the admiration the medical worldawards Scandinavia for the safeguards thrown about maternity,Iwas eager to find out,if I could, why this country has such a uni-formly low maternal mortality rate. With this in mind,I paid avisit to the office of what corresponds to the State board of healthto learn where I could best find out about the obstetrical proceduresof this part of Scandinavia. There I had the good fortune to meetDr.G.Tryde,the president of the National Board of Health,andDr.H.J.Hansen,the chief statistician. Both these physicians speakEnglish and are conversant with the American medical situation.Doctor Hansen, indeed, had just returned from a visit to the UnitedStates. \nAfter many inquiries on my part and offers from them of printedmaterial for future reference,I realized that normal deliveriesthroughout the kingdom are left to midwives and
