It specifies pre- and post-splint distal neurovascular assessment, documentation and handover requirements, analgesia prioritization before painful manipulation, and infection control steps for open fractures before splinting. The core procedural guidance details a 7-step Kendrick traction splint application, including anchoring, upper thigh system placement, traction pole positioning and length check, knee strap securing, traction via colored tabs, and final thigh and ankle strap application, supported by references and standard guidelines.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/healthcare/","Healthcare",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/mid-shaft-femoral-fracture-kendrick-traction-splint-application/364396/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/mid-shaft-femoral-fracture-kendrick-traction-splint-application/364396.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Grenda","Person",{"url":19,"name":45,"@type":46},"DocShare","Organization","application/pdf","2026-11-03","2026-09-23",true,{"@type":52,"interactionType":53,"userInteractionCount":55},"InteractionCounter",{"@type":54},"ViewAction",13,{"@type":57,"mainEntity":58},"FAQPage",[59,65,69],{"name":60,"@type":61,"acceptedAnswer":62},"What assessments must be performed regarding distal neurovascular function when using a splint?","Question",{"text":63,"@type":64},"Assess distal neurovascular function both before and after applying the splint. These assessments must be clearly documented on any paperwork and handed over to the receiving team in the Emergency Department. \nIt is paramount that the patient’s analgesia needs are addressed prior to potentially painful movements or manipulations of a fractured limb. \nOpen fractures should be irrigated prior to splining and have a dressing applied. \n7 STEP Application of the Kendrick Traction Splint \n1. Apply Ankle Hitch. And tighten stirrup. \n2. Apply Upper Thigh System in crotch area. \n3. Snap out Traction Pole and ensure correctly seated. \n4. Place pole against leg. Ensure length extends 8 inches past the foot. Place pole into receptacle in Upper Thigh System. \n5. Secure elastic strap around knee. \n6. Place Yellow tab over dart end. Apply traction by pulling Red tab. \n7. Finally, apply Thigh and Anklestraps \nReference / Standard \n● Kendrick Traction Device Application Instructions \n● Ross and Wilson Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness \n● JRCALC 2013 \n● UKHEMS Guidelines Splinting Limbs and practice available at [http://www.ukhems.co.uk/Splintage%20 %20Limbs%20and%20Pelvis.pdf](http://www.ukhems.co.uk/Splintage%20 %20Limbs%20and%20Pelvis.pdf)[ ](http://www.ukhems.co.uk/Splintage%20 %20Limbs%20and%20Pelvis.pdf)[last accessed 22](last accessed 22nd July 2015)[nd](last accessed 22nd July 2015)[ July 2015](last accessed 22nd July 2015) . \nManufacturers Training Video Link \n[https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&x yt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&x yt)[ ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&x yt)[cl=84503534&x yt ts=1421914688&v=01EwxclwrMM](cl=84503534&x yt ts=1421914688&v=01EwxclwrMM) \nImages courtesy of Dr Benoudina Samir, \n[http://radiopaedia.org/cases/femoral](http://radiopaedia.org/cases/femoral) shaft fracture 2","cbCaiaEpR6n1uWxt","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaEpR6n1uWxt","pdf",283753,"English","# Scenario: Mid-Shaft Femoral Fracture\n## Stage/Design/Props/Technical Setup\n## Examination and Management Prompts\n## Debrief (Clinical, CRM)\n# Clinical Considerations\n## Distal neurovascular assessment\n## Analgesia before manipulation\n## Open fracture preparation\n# 7-Step Application of the Kendrick Traction Splint\n## Steps 1-7\n# Reference / Standard","[{\"question\":\"What assessments must be performed regarding distal neurovascular function when using a splint?\",\"answer\":\"Assess distal neurovascular function both before and after applying the splint.
