teachers is intensifying some of our national problems.  \nModern life has pressed some urgent and sharply-defined tasks oneducation,tasks of producing certain specially-needed kinds of edu-cated talent.Yet talented people live in a world peopled with averagepeople.For the sake of our future we cannot neglect the great basicgoals of our educational system:to foster individual fulfillment and tonurture the free,rational,responsible men and women without whomour kind of society cannot endure.Our schools must prepare all youngpeople,whatever their talents,for the serious business of being
