Directors took note of the ongoing economic crisis in Mexico, exacerbated by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the criticality of the reform agenda to support the recovery efforts and bolster a development path on the wake of the crisis.  \nDirectors noted that despite being above the GDI threshold, Mexico faces challenges that require the continued support of the WBG, which has played an important role in helping the country address its development challenges and more recently, COVID-19 response. Directors recognized the Government in its efforts to Build Back Better, as the country faces growing downside risks including those related to the effects of climate change. They urged Mexico to strengthen its commitments towards a low carbon economy while monitoring the impacts and targets underpinning the Nationally Determined Contribution, in part supported by this operation. Directors also acknowledged the opportunities for knowledge transfer for other countries and regions facing similar challenges to those of Mexico.  \nDirectors also expressed their support for the implementation of an emissions trading system on a national scale and welcomed the implementation of policies to help protect forests and reduce air pollution.
