pope,Peter,\"He hated discipline. In other words,he was likeeverybody else.”We all know we need to grow indiscipline, and we know we don't want to.Lent isa discipline, and most of us would have to admitwe don't really like it.We'd also have to admit weneed it.Lent invites us into a season of greaterspiritual discipline that includes prayer, penance, and almsgiving. This discipline,in turn, pushes usoutside our comfort zone and challenges our usualorientation in life. \nWe all have a mental framework in which weunderstand God,a paradigm or conception of howthings work from which we interpret the world andlife around us.This is absolutely necessary for usif we are to maintain our balance and organize ourlives and relationships. However,at times we needthe gift of disorientation. This is because in timesof disorientation we are confronted with freshfacts or new truths that cannot be ignored and donot fit within our old ways of comprehending theworld. \nJesus brought the gift of disorientation intofirst-century Palestine. He did this over and overagain with just about every group and individualwith whom he interacted. He brought disorien-tation to the religious leaders of the time.Theycould not understand how Jesus could both ful-fill the Law and at the same time receive and dine \nwith sinners. He brought disorientation to sinnersand outcasts. They were shocked to learn that theycould have access to the kingdom of heaven, thatGod would welcome them as sons and daughters. And Jesus constantly disoriented his closest friendsand followers on just about everything from reli-gious rule keeping to the measure of true greatness. \nLenten discipline introduces disorientation intoour ordinary lives, and that's why it's so importantfor our continued growth in discipleship. As youwork your way through these brief scripture pas-sages and messages about growing in trust,we praythat you will experience the gift of disorientation. We pray that your heart will be touched and yourmind will be stretched to grow. \nIn turn may you receive another gift—the giftof reorientation. This occurs when we synthesizenew insights and understandings with our old par-adigms.We learn that our old understanding wasnot wrong, just limited. Our minds and hearts areexpanded to receive more of the blessings andgrace of God. \nMay your Lenten journey bring you to a newand deeper understanding of God your Father anda more expansive trust in the ways of the Lord.May Len","cbCaiaT75Hv7SVCs","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaiaT75Hv7SVCs","pdf",2354995,68,"English","#
