Education is a societal obligation and we again making the call for society to not fold its arms when our teachers and schools are under attack as experienced recently. \nThe call for provisioning of safety measures in schools need to be undertaken as a matter of urgency in ensuring that access to schools is controlled as much as possible and schools be declared safe zones free from any sort of weapons and any person found in possession of such be dealt with severely for they shall have acted against the law. To all our teachers be assured of our continued support and continuously engaging the employers to ensure that a safe working environment is created for you to perform your duties well. \nOur learners must rise up in defence of their right to learn and be taught by teachers who are free from being abused or attacked because this robs them of their future which they should not allow. \nDear parents please play your role in inculcating the values we highlighted above \nIssued by the South African Council for Educators (SACE) Enquiries: Themba Ndhlovu \nEmail: [thembinkosindhlovu@gmail.com/pr@sace.org.za](thembinkosindhlovu@gmail.com/pr@sace.org.za) \n[Cell: 071 606 3311](Cell: 071 606 3311) \n13 June 2019","cbCaikGtwtVrXgRH","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikGtwtVrXgRH","pdf",237932,"English","# Media Statement\n## Position on violence and safety\n## Values for educators, learners, and families\n## Urgent calls for safe zones and support\n## Contact and issue date","[{\"question\":\"What position does SACE take regarding teachers arming themselves for safety?\",\"answer\":\"SACE rejects the promotion of violence in teaching and learning centres and reiterates that incidents involving such actions are always condemned.\"},{\"question\":\"Which values does SACE emphasize for society and children?\",\"answer\":\"SACE calls for dignity, tolerance, responsibility, accountability, and respect, and stresses revitalizing the role of families in instilling these values.\"},{\"question\":\"What safety measures does SACE call for in schools?\",\"answer\":\"SACE urges urgent provisioning of safety measures, controlled access to schools, declaring schools safe zones free from weapons, and severe handling of anyone found in possession of weapons.\"},{\"question\":\"How does SACE address support for teachers and involvement of society?\",\"answer\":\"SACE assures continued support to teachers, calls on society not to ignore attacks on teachers and schools, and encourages learners and parents to defend the right to learn and teach without abuse.\"}]","Media Statement - South African Council for Educators - 13 June 2019 | PDF",1792379416]
