Calculus is strongly encouraged if it's available at your school to prepare for math studies on campus. Admission to business can be highly competitive, but many applicants choose to apply to less selective programs or explore alternative paths. Current McCombs students often change their major due to discovering business isn't a good fit; UT offers over 120 majors, and many students default to business due to its perceived stability. If you don't feel competitive for business or it doesn't align with your interests, consider programs like the Business Minor, which is open to any UT student. Other certificate options include global management, real estate, public policy, and more. The Bridging Disciplines Program (BDP) allows students to combine coursework outside their major with research and internships. Applicants interested in the Canfield Business Honors Program (CBHP) must select Business as their first choice. Honors reviewers will have access to everything submitted on Apply Texas and uploaded to My Status Page, including an expanded resume and one recommendation letter. After submitting Apply Texas, complete the brief Honors Application. UT's Business Honors Program (BHP) requires students to complete specific courses throughout their four-year tenure. BHP students are uniquely positioned to declare a double major within business, such as combining business with a discipline like marketing or finance. Applying for honors does not affect a student's regular admissions decision; the two processes are distinct, with the Office of Admissions handling regular admissions and BHP reviewers selecting their applicants. Given that BHP staff carefully selects applicants to build a specific community, only about 500 competitive applicants will receive phone interviews conducted primarily by BHP alumni between October and December. To be considered for BHP, students should aim to rank in the top 5% with at least a 32/1450 on the ACT/SAT. The typical admitted student scores higher (34/1484) and ranks in the top 1.7% of their class; however, even valedictorians and perfect scorers may face rejection. Approximately half of the 244 students who gained admission to BHP's Fall 2018 cohort enrolled. Since 2017, my clients have experienced mixed outcomes: 21 received interviews, six were admitted, and 18 were denied without being interviewed.
