Specifically, we will delay studying Chapter 4 until the end of the semester (so the general order of chapters covered will be 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 4) . This adjustment is designed to allow for adequate study of computational methods in Chapters 6 and 7 . See the last two pages of this syllabus for the weekly schedule specific to this section. \nGeneral Information \nCourse Page: All official announcements, problem sets, quizzes, deadlines, and grades will be posted online via the course Canvas page. Homework assignments and labs are to be submitted to the course Gradescope page, and semi-weekly quizzes will be given via Canvas. \nTextbook: The following textbook is required: \nLinear Algebra and its Applications by David C. Lay (6th edition) . ISBN-13: 9780136880929 \nAn e-textbook version is available through the university’s inclusive access program and will be accessible through the ‘Bookshelf’ tab on the course Canvas page. Students should receive an email a week prior to the start of class allowing them to opt out of the e-textbook rental. If you do nothing, you will automatically be opted-in and charged the rental fee. Alternatively, you may choose to purchase a physical copy of the textbook from an external source (make sure you opt-out of the e-textbook if you do this!) . \nExam Dates: \n• Midterm 1: Friday, September 12 in class \n• Midterm 2: Friday, October 17 in class \n• Midterm 3: Friday, November 21 in class \n• Final Exam: Thursday, December 11 at 8:00 – 10:00am in our regular classroom, AEB 350 \nCourse Description: Linear Algebra is the mathematics of functions between finite dimensional linear spaces. The elements of those spaces are vectors, and the functions are matrices. That may sound pretty dry, but Linear Algebra is as fundamental to problem solving in science and engineering as is calculus – it’sthe mathematical foundation of Machine Learning algorithms (and, consequently, of AI models) . If you are consistent with learning and understanding the material in this course, you will see that Linear Algebra has a rich and comprehensible structure. \nCanvas: Canvas will be used for posting course announcements, homework assignments, grades, files and any relevant supplementary material. You are also welcome to make use if the Canvas discussion board to discuss course problems or topics. You can access the Canvas page through CIS or by logging in at [utah.instructure.com. Students](utah.instructure.com. Students) should check the Canvas page regularly for course information and resources. Email notifications and correspondence will be sent to the student’s UMail address ([u-number]@utah.edu); this email account must be checked regularly. \nCoursework and Grading \nHomework (25%): Every week a homework assignment will be released, covering material to be presented during the week’s lectures and possibly covering material from the previous week’s lectures. Homework will be due at 11:59 pm on the following Thursday, to be submitted via Gradescope. If you need an extension on an assignment, you must ask ahead of time. All assignments will be turned in (and graded) on Gradescope. Some problems will be graded for completion and some for correctness. The lowest two homework assignments will be dropped. \nQuizzes (10%): On most Fridays after class, a short 1-4 problem quiz will be given through Canvas, due by Sunday night, and taking roughly 10-25 minutes to complete. Quizzes may be taken at a self-selected time and will not be timed. These problems will cover material presented in that w","cbCaikhdF178993l","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaikhdF178993l","pdf",128296,"English","# Course Information\n## Instructor, Schedule, Location\n## Core Syllabus Deviation\n## Course Page and Learning Platforms\n## Textbook Requirements\n# Exams and Assessments\n## Exam Dates (Midterms and Final)\n## Homework Policy\n## Quizzes Policy\n## Midterms Policy\n## Final Exam Policy\n# Grading\n## Coursework Weights\n## Grade Adjustments\n## Grading Scale","[{\"question\":\"Where can students find official announcements, assignments, quizzes, and grades?\",\"answer\":\"Students should use the course Canvas page for official announcements, problem sets, quizzes, deadlines, and grades.
