Many individuals have been involved in writing and reviewing materials for this project since it began at Richland High School in 1986, including contributions from educators at Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory, Central Washington University, the University of Washington, teachers from Northwest schools, and science and education personnel at Battelle, Pacific Northwest Laboratories. Support for development was also provided by the U.S. Department of Education. This latest version was revised during l993-1994 by a group of teacher consultants that included Guy Whittaker, Coupeville, Washington; Paul Howard, Richland Washington; Noel Stubbs and Eric Pittenger, Corvallis High School, Corvallis, Oregon; Andy Nydam, River Ridge High School, Lacey Washington; and Len Booth, Lacey, Washington. The following PNL staff members reviewed the guide: Mike Schweiger, Materials and Chemical Sciences Center, Irene Hays and Karen Wieda, Science Education Center; and Jamie Gority and Georganne O’Connor, Communications Directorate. Many other organizations and individuals providing support are noted in the Acknowledgments section.\u003Cbr>The curriculum has also been endorsed by the U.S. Materials Education Council and was featured in articles in the MRS Bulletin, the journal of the Materials Research Society in September 1992 and December 1993. |\n| --- | --- |\n\nU.S. Department of Energy, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory iii \n\n| | |\n| --- | --- |\n\niv U.S. Department of Energy, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory \nMST Teachers Handbook \n\n| | Contents\u003Cbr>Introduction to M","cbCaijx2UYrYRaNO","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaijx2UYrYRaNO","pdf",2556345,353,"English","# Introduction to Materials Science and Technology\n## What is Materials Science?\n## The Relationship of Science and Technology\n## How is Basic Science Linked to Everyday Materials\n## A Short History of Materials Science\n## A New Scientific Frontier\n## Looking at MST as a Career—“The Field of Dreams”\n# Creating an MST Environment\n## MST Curriculum Philosophy/Rationale\n## Multi-Instructional Approach\n## Course of Study\n## Solving Problems\n## Creating Student Projects\n## Using the Laboratory Journal\n## Working in Small Groups\n## Developing Handiness\n## Fostering Creativity\n## Teaching in Teams\n## Using Community Resources\n## Setting Up the MST Classroom and Laboratory\n## Laboratory Safety\n# Standards, Learning Goals, and Assessment\n## Standards, Learning Goals, and Assessment\n## National Education Standards for Curriculum, Assessment, and Teaching Strategies","[{\"question\":\"What is the purpose of this Teachers Handbook?\",\"answer\":\"It provides curriculum philosophy, instructional approaches, and practical guidance for teaching materials science and technology, including classroom and laboratory practices.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the handbook recommend structuring MST instruction?\",\"answer\":\"It emphasizes a multi-instructional approach, problem solving, student projects, use of a laboratory journal, and collaborative work in small groups and teaching teams.\"},{\"question\":\"What topics about learning goals and assessment are included?\",\"answer\":\"It includes standards, learning goals, and assessment, along with national education standards and how they connect to MST, supported by teaching strategy guidance.\"}]","Materials Science and Technology Teachers Handbook - read online free | PDF",1790820871,890]
