color consistently.Just asany of us put on a little better clothes on occasion—dress up for an event,we intend to dress up ourmagazine on occasion with a color cover  \nSince this is the first time we've tried colorfor the cover,it's an event—a milestone in ourmagazine's growth.Five years ago we couldn't  \nhave even considered such a step.As we were considering this recent-ly,a letter came to my desk from the first editor of our magazine.He,too,was moved by the apparent growth of MARRIAGE from whatit was when he first took over in May,1919,when THE GRAIL firstappeared:that was our name until February,1959.I'll quote hisletter in part:  \n\"It is about time the 'old man'sat down to write you a few lines,so that the first editor of THE GRAIL,that was,may greet MARRIAGEat least once in his lifetime.MARRIAGE is an interesting little publica-tion with its attractive makeup and worthwhile topics.It is,of course,the contents that make the little monthly vitally interesting to thosefor whom it is written.I understand that you are branching out over-seas,with an Irish-English edition.May you succeed in this venture.And God be with you!”(Signed)Rev.Benedict Brown,O.S.B.  \nFather Benedict is now 87 years old and,as his letter shows,isactively interested in the projects he has been involved in.He is amonk at Marmion Abbey,Aurora,Illinois.  \nIn reminiscing about Father Benedict's pioneer work with THEGRAIL,I got out Volume I,Number 1 of the magazine.And I foundin the very first sentence of Father Benedict's Editorial a prophetic hintof the work we would be doing with MARRIAGE Magazine in 1963:\"With this issue THE GRAIL makes its modest bow to an expectantpublic!\"Which just goes to show you how subtly the meaning ofwords can change.But,as I continued reading that first editorial,Irealized that the purpose of our efforts has not changed in half a cen-tury of publishing.As Father Benedict wrote:\"It shall be our pur-pose to publish a popular monthly to
