MARCHING IS FUN\n\nhttps://archive.org/details/marchingisfun0000unse \nA collection of marching figuresprepared by Gene Fuller for use byyoung folks at schools, churches, family night parties,or otherrecreation and social programs. \n## THE GRAND MARCH\n\nMarching is FUN and I believe that everyone, young and old, likes to march, especially if the figures are interesting and varied, and the music is lively and enjoyable. In any recreational group, large or small, there are quite a number who seem to have difficultyjoining in the activity imnediately. There are the ones who are shyand backward, the ones who like to be coaxed, the ones who \"don'tknow how\"to do whatever is being done,or the ones who came just tolook. \nLeading children(or adults)in a Grand March can be a good\"warming up\"for a game or dance session, especially when they arenot yet quite sure whether they really want to and will be able toparticipate. You just invite them to follow the marching couplesand they will find themselves moving to the music. But don't usemarching for too long a period or make the patterns too complicated. It should be done \"just for fun,\"and nothing more.Marching willhelp draw the inactive ones into the active group and start off thesocial session with fun and a spirit of friendliness,as well ashelping everyone get acquainted. Marching is fun and it is anexcellent way to get people out on the floor and \"break the ice\"for the planned activities to follow. \nThe traditional Grand March, used at almost all dances in theearly days, has almost disappeared.Adapted to infinite variety,it can be done in any way that any teacher or committee decides isbest. The Grand March can be a simple informal affair or an \nelaborate ceremonious one.As an \"opener\"or as an interlude in aprogram, the Grand March is very effective in getting_everybody\"up and active.\" The Grand March dates back to the 15th centurywhen it was known as the Polonaise and was used in opening thestate balls of European courts. It consisted of a ceremoniousprocession where a master of ceremonies conducted the marchersthrough various evolutions. In 1573 at the court of Henry III ofPoland it was the custom to have the nobles with their wives marchin procession past the throne to the sound of stately music. Andvillage festivals were opened with the Polonaise. Here in Americadrills and marches were also popular with the young folks fromabout 1890 to the late 1920's. \nfftc多7 可 \n「r0 \n95 \n## TERMS USED IN THE TEXT\n\nHEAD.Head of the hall, top or back of room or the end of roomfarthest from the stage. \nFOOT.Foot of the hall, front of room, bottom of hall or the endof the room where the stage, the caller or leader may belocated. \nDOWN THE CENTER.Means to meet or turn at the middle of the HEADof the hall and march toward the FOOT of the room. \nUP THE CENTER.Means to meet or turn at the middle of the FOOTof the hall and march toward the HEAD of the room. \nDIAGRAMS.All of the diagrams or line drawings are shown as ifviewed from the stage or Foot of room. \nFIGURES.The pattern or maneuver that is being performed by themarchers。 \nPARTNERS OR COUPLES.A boy and girl marching together in TWOS,with girl on RIGHT side of the boy.
