Renovation is currently going on in the South Elementary classrooms, the safe and secure entrance and administrator offices are being constructed and the new restrooms are taking shape. This past week, work began in the old gym/stage area, it is amazing how big the stage/collaboration space area will be! Dirt work has begun on the new addition and very soon you will notice footings being constructed! \nEveryone who pays property taxes in the state of Nebraska is eligible to receive 30% of the amount paid in property taxes as a state income tax credit again this year. The Nebraska Property Tax Credit program will issue a state income tax credit for 30% of the general fund, special building fund and quality purpose undertaker fund taxes that you paid in 2022. Taxes paid to the community colleges will also be refunded at the 30% . This is the third year that you can receive this tax credit. If you do not owe state income tax, then you will receive a check in the mail for your 30% . Many people know about this program, but if you use Turbo Tax or other electronic tax programs, the program may not pick this up as it is applicable just to the state of Nebraska. You can go to the Nebraska Department of Revenue at this link and learn more about this great program! If you did not know about this program, you can still file for the year 2021 (25%) and for the year 2020 (6%) . Please click on this link for more information-[https://revenue.nebraska.gov/about/nebraska-property-tax-credit-general](https://revenue.nebraska.gov/about/nebraska-property-tax-credit-general)information Please fill out the PTC form and send it in with your taxes so that you can have 30% of the property taxes that you paid returned to you in the form of an income tax credit. \nThe Nebraska Unicameral session is working through the 2023 legislative session. Many bills have been introduced to try and address the increased valuation of agricultural land, curb spending of government entities and to change the budgetary guidelines that government entities follow. We are no longer an equalized district for purposes of the TEOSSA formula because of the increased value of agricultural land. Currently the only funds that we receive in the form of state aid is for net option students. TEOSSA used be 1/3 Property tax, 1/3 Income Tax and 1/3 Sales Tax. Because of the state underfunding TEOSSA, this is no longer the case. If you have any questions on the budget, TEOSSA, or how any of the legislative bills will affect our district, please give me a call or stop by my office. The third nine weeks of the 2022-2023 school year ends on March 8th. It seems impossible that we can be that far into the school year, but we are. In the next few months students will be taking assessment tests, including the ACT test for juniors. We are excited to announce that Chad Cargill will be coming to Hershey on March 13th to give an assembly to our sophomores and juniors on the ACT Test! I am pleased to say that the Hershey Public Schools Educational Foundation will be paying for half of this assembly. \nTuesday, March 7th is Nebraska Teacher Recognition Day. Let the teachers know you appreciate the hard work they do in educating the children of the Hershey School District. We will not be in session \non March 9-10 as this is Spring Break. On Monday, March 13th, we will undergo our five year accreditation visit. Cognia, (previously AdvancED/North Central Accreditation) will be here to visit and receive input about our school. At the end of their visit, they will provide us with feedback on areas that we excel at and areas where we could improve upon! This is always an insightful process. Let me know if I can ever be of assistance to you in anyway.
