Rapid land-use and land-cover change drives these impacts, and high-resolution satellite imagery combined with geospatial tools enables accurate, efficient mapping over large areas. This thesis analyzes urban LULC change in the Abu Dhabi metropolitan area across 1990–2022 using geospatial technologies integrated with machine learning. Support Vector Machine models the change using Landsat imagery (1990, 2000, 2014, 2022), with Post-Classification Comparison for consecutive and full-period mapping. Results show high SVM accuracy and sustained urbanization, supporting planning and policy decisions.","United Arab Emirates University \nScholarworks@UAEU \n\n| Theses | Electronic Theses and Dissertations |\n| --- | --- |\n\n4-2024 \nMAPPING AND ANALYZING URBAN GROWTH IN THE ABU DHABI METROPOLITAN USING GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES INTEGRATED WITH MACHINE LEARNING \nHamsa Mohamed Yusuf \nFollow this and additional works at: [https://scholarworks.uaeu.ac.ae/all_theses](https://scholarworks.uaeu.ac.ae/all_theses) \n Part of the Urban Studies Commons \nMASTER THESIS NO. 2025: 50 \nCollege of Humanities and Social Sciences \nDepartment of Geography and Urban Sustainability \nMAPPING AND ANALYZING URBAN GROWTH IN THE ABU DHABI METROPOLITAN USING GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES INTEGRATED WITH MACHINE LEARNING \nHamsa Mohamed Yusuf \nUnited Arab Emirates University \nCollege of Humanities and Social Sciences \nDepartment of Geography and Urban Sustainability \nMAPPING AND ANALYZING URBAN GROWTH IN THE ABU DHABI METROPOLITAN USING GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGIES INTEGRATED WITH MACHINE LEARNING \nHamsa Mohamed Yusuf \nThis thesis is submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Remote Sensing and Geographic Information Systems \nApril 2025 \nUnited Arab Emirates University Master Thesis \n2025: 50 \nCover: Urban land change of Abu Dhabi for the years 1990/2000/2014/2022 generated using ArcGIS. This has great environmental and social impacts, along with large impacts on regional climate and one of the reasons for this is the ever-continuous change of land use and land cover.
