The report identifies, for each state, whether mathematics testing is mandated at the state level, how tests are selected or developed, how they are administered and how results are reported. It also analyzes the roles of state consultants and teachers’ organizations, summarizes test names and characteristics, and explains how test results are used and communicated to teachers.",{"@graph":14,"@context":73},[15,34,56],{"@type":16,"itemListElement":17},"BreadcrumbList",[18,23,27,31],{"item":19,"name":20,"@type":21,"position":22},"https://docshare.wps.com","Home","ListItem",1,{"item":24,"name":25,"@type":21,"position":26},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/","Document",2,{"item":28,"name":29,"@type":21,"position":30},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/exam/","Exam",3,{"item":32,"name":10,"@type":21,"position":33},"https://docshare.wps.com/document/mandated-school-mathematics-testing-in-the-united-states-a-survey-of-state-mathematics-supervisors/272213/",4,{"url":32,"name":10,"@type":35,"image":36,"author":41,"headline":10,"publisher":44,"fileFormat":47,"inLanguage":8,"description":12,"dateModified":48,"datePublished":49,"encodingFormat":47,"isAccessibleForFree":50,"interactionStatistic":51},"DigitalDocument",{"url":37,"@type":38,"width":39,"height":40},"https://docshare.wps.com/thumbnails/mandated-school-mathematics-testing-in-the-united-states-a-survey-of-state-mathematics-supervisors/272213.png","ImageObject",300,407,{"name":42,"@type":43},"Emma a series from the National Center for Research inMathematical Sciences Education regarding effects of mandatedtesting. The purpose of the study was to determine for each state: \n(1)whether mathematics testing was mandated at the state leve1;(2)the processes of test selection or development, administration, andreporting of resuits;(3)the role of teachers, state mathematicsconsultants, and state mathematics teacher organizations in the aboveprocesses;(4)names and characteristics of the tests used;(5)howtest resuits are used by the states;and(6)how test results arereported to teachers. The main body of the document comprisespage-1ong summaries of questionnaire responses for each state, including a table of test name by grade level. The prototypicaltesting mode1:(1)employed one test for all students at each ofthree or four grade levels;(2)used a mu1tiple-choice format;(3)was developed by or in conjunction with a commercial pu:blisher;(4)was a test of basic skills;(5)was used to inform the public and thelegislature and compare students with national norms;and(6)provided teachers with information on individual students and on theschool, district,or state on the objectives tested:There has been ageneral increase in state mandated testing(from 1984 to 1989)andstate-mandated(versus district-mandated)testing has an influence onteachers.(RC) \n.
