This is nq_t a new issue, and many \nefforts have been made to. \nimprove the situation-in vain, it would seem. I first highlighted that school canteens were selling non-nutritious foods when I first started working as a nutritionist in 1973. Some 52 years later, we do not appear to be any closer to resolving the problem. \nIt is of utmost importance to give serious attention to the . nutritio 􀂸al status of the young generation to ensure they will become healthy adults. \nIn cognisance of this, the \n􀂹tttrition Society of Malaysia mtroduced the Malaysia School Nutrition Promotion Programme (MySNPP) in 2019. The programme ensures a nutritious meal, as prescribed by nutritionists, is offered in thernnteen, and also. provides simple nutrition education. \nThis programme has been implemented in several dozen schools wii:h the support of school authorities, parent-teacher associations, and school canteen operators. Instead, they queue up to receive balanced meals-prepared by the canteen operator \naccording to nutritionists' /,3'\\ guidelines. \\..::/ \nTo truly resolve the issue of undesirable food and drinks \nbeing available in schools we \nmust introduce meals that are prescribed and monitored by nutritionists, yvorking with the canteen operators. And to enable schoolchildren to gain basic knowledge on nutrition, exposing them to a simple nutrition \nmodule is essential. \nImplementing a programme such as MySNPP is the way · forward. I urge the relevant \nauthorities to take this step for the sake of our children, to prepare themto be healthier Malaysians in years to come. \n· .
