Please delete these notes before printing  \nMaking Compost in a Steel Drum  \nTo make a compost drum,  \nCut the lid off the drum.  \nCut the bottom out.  \nMake holes in the side of the drum. Small insects and worms that will decompose the waste need air to work.  \nPlace the compost drum in a shady place in your garden or near your house.  \nFill it with dead grass and weeds, leaves and kitchen leftovers. Do not put sticks or brushwood in, as these will take too long to rot.  \nAlso, put in manure, ashes anda little soil.  \nKeep the drum full all the time  \nIf the weather is dry, keep the compost well-watered. (You can use wastewater from the kitchen. ) The small insects and worms need humidity to work. But be careful; if there is too much water you will only get mud and not compost.
