Discusses expected labor demand versus stable engineering degree production during 2000–2010, and addresses community concerns about future engineer supply. Examines demographic trends influencing enrollment and workforce needs, including growth of 18–24 year olds and the projected population increase among African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanics. The current ACT Policy Research Agenda focuses on four specific areas: \n■ Developing the Applicant Pool \n■ Increasing Diversity in College \n■ Remedial Education in College \n■ Retention in College \nACT policy reports can also be viewed and printed from ACT’s website ([www.act.org/research/policy/index.html](www.act.org/research/policy/index.html)). For additional information about ACT’s policy research work, copies of ACT policy studies, or to contact the ACT Office of Policy Research staff, please e-mail us [at policy@act.org](at policy@act.org). \nThis study, Maintaining a Strong Engineering Workforce, was initiated as part of the second author’s summer internship at ACT. What began as a look into the demographics of those planning to major in engineering has resulted in a comprehensive policy report examining twelve-year trends and including over 750,000 ACT test takers. \nThis study and resulting policy report have greatly benefited from the contributions of many individuals. Several external-to-ACT educators provided considerable help in shaping the study and reviewing draft manuscripts. These individuals include: Marion Blalock (Purdue University), Monica ","cbCaih8Mlwa7ZOrf","https://ap.wps.com/l/cbCaih8Mlwa7ZOrf","pdf",886449,57,"English","# ACT Policy Research\n## Contents\n## Preface\n## Executive Summary\n## 1 Introduction\n## 2 Plans and Aspirations\n## 3 High School Coursework\n## 4 Academic Performance in High School\n## 5 Perceived Needs for Academic Assistance\n## 6 Conclusions and Recommendations\n## Bibliography\n## Appendix","[{\"question\":\"What is the main purpose of this ACT policy report?\",\"answer\":\"To inform policymakers and the public about key education issues by analyzing how to sustain a strong engineering workforce, including workforce needs, educational preparation, and related trends.\"},{\"question\":\"How does the report describe engineering workforce demand versus degree production?\",\"answer\":\"It states that engineering labor demand is expected to increase, while engineering degrees are expected to remain stable during the 2000–2010 period.\"},{\"question\":\"What demographic factors does the report highlight as relevant to engineering supply?\",\"answer\":\"It notes growth in the number of 18–24 year olds by 2010 and that African Americans, American Indians, and Hispanics will account for nearly 60% of the population increase over that time.\"}]","Maintaining a Strong Engineering Workforce - ACT Policy Report | PDF",1791520897,144]
