Written by Mutugi Kamundi and illustrated by Wiehan de Jager, this work, reformatted for Bloom by Cara Ediger as part of the African Storybook Initiative, explores a time when only humans possessed legs, as granted by Maguru. The story details Maguru's decision to bestow legs upon all animals, a proclamation met with great joy and anticipation. Animals, weary of crawling and desiring the ability to stand, run, and see farther, eagerly gathered at Maguru's home. The narrative culminates with a diverse assembly of animals, including giraffes, lions, elephants, rabbits, crocodiles, and birds, forming queues to receive their new limbs. The book highlights themes of transformation, equality, and the shared desire for progress and mobility among all creatures.
