However, the conditions within a home are different for different babies and pets, and individuals also have different behavior patterns. Therefore, in the event of discomfort, suggested by a crying baby, it can be difficult for the parent to determine the appropriate action to take. This disclosure describes the use of machine learning based  \npattern matching techniques, implemented locally on a user device and with specific user  \npermission, to learn patterns of behavior and how they relate to environmental and other factors detected from sensor data. Babies may face common grievances such as hunger, discomfort, pain, boredom, sleep deprivation, etc. Babies express them through crying, tantrums, or other distress signals. There can also be additional causes for discomfort for babies with special needs, and how they communicate. Parents face challenges in  \ndetermining impending distress signs, the cause of distress, and solutions for the distress.  \nParents also struggle with and sometimes panic over what actions to take to address their baby’s distress and determine why the intervention they made may not be working. Similar issues are  \nfaced with pets such as dogs, cats, etc.  \nDESCRIPTION  \nThis disclosure describes the use of machine learning techniques to provide insights about behaviors of newborns or infants and recommend specific real time actions for parents or caretakers to take to address identified distress. Additional insights can be provided to parents based on analysis of broad patterns for newborns and infants who are of similar age and stage of development or special need.
